Later, the researchers made the children play with their mothers for some time. During the first phase of the play, mothers were allowed to participate with their babies. In the second phase, mothers were asked to ignore the babies and in the third phase, the mothers were again allowed to show care.
During the whole episode, researchers observed that a mother's affection could minimise the cortisol levels in the children.
