Can Being Overweight During Early Pregnancy Cause Health Risks After Delivery?
Wondering if gaining a lot of weight during early pregnancy is healthy or not? Read to find out!
It is a very well known fact that pregnancy is one of the most sensitive stages of a woman's life.
During pregnancy, everything a woman does, impacts the child growing inside her womb to a great extent.
For instance, if a woman indulges in smoking and drinking during pregnancy, then, her baby could be born with certain birth defects and she herself could experience health complications.
Whereas, if she eats healthy and takes care of her health well, then there are very less chances of her baby being born unhealthy.
Now, as we all know, being overweight or obese is a very negative health condition that can impact every person's health in a bad way.
Being overweight can lead to health complications such as high cholesterol, hypertension, joint pain, lowered confidence levels, digestive disorders, etc.
However, a pregnant woman needs to gain a certain amount of weight to have a healthy pregnancy.
So, let us find out if being overweight during the early stages of pregnancy can affect a woman after delivery.
Overweight Issues And Pregnancy
Experts say that a pregnant woman must gain about 8-10 kilos during the entire course of her pregnancy, in order to facilitate a healthy pregnancy.
However, if the woman is overweight or obese even before pregnancy, then the maximum weight gained during pregnancy should be between 5-7 kilos.
Being overweight during pregnancy, that is more than the required amount of weight gain, can cause certain health risks in both the child and the mother after delivery.
A recent research study published in the JAMA Network Journals said that after a survey, it was found that the chances of children being born with cerebral palsy is more in women who were overweight during pregnancy.
In addition, the research study also found that, after delivery, many women who were overweight during the early stages of pregnancy suffered from postnatal depression, back pain, heavy menstruation, etc., due to the hormonal imbalance caused by excess fat in the body.
So, in conclusion, being overweight during the early stages of pregnancy can definitely affect the mother and even the baby, after birth.
