Is It Difficult For Women With Asthma To Get Pregnant?
Many a times, movies and stories make the act of getting pregnant look like a piece of cake. Just spend a few intimate moments with your partner and boom, you are on your way to be a mom!
However, in reality, things don't work the same way and conceiving is not an easy task, in the case of many couples. Especially today, infertility is on the rise and most of the couples find it hard to be parents.
Unhealthy lifestyles, work pressure, stress, overuse of contraception, negative effects of technology, etc, are some of the few reasons that can lead to infertility.
To get pregnant effortlessly, a woman must have excellent health. If she has certain disorders or ailments, prior to starting a family, they may make the process of her getting pregnant difficult.
According to a recent study, asthma is also one such disorder that is known to hamper a woman's chances of getting pregnant.
What Is Asthma?
Asthma is a serious respiratory disorder, in which the patient's respiratory tracts become inflamed and narrow, producing excess mucus, thereby making it hard for them to breathe.
The symptoms of asthma include chronic cough, difficulty in breathing, wheezing, shortness of breath, tightness in the chest, etc.
Can Asthma Reduce The Chances Of Being Pregnant?
A recent research study states that women with asthma may have lesser chances of getting pregnant, when compared to women without this disorder.
The same study also opines that women with asthma may take a longer time to conceive and that it can affect their fertility.
Also, it is advised that women with asthma should try to conceive earlier, as it may be even more difficult to get pregnant with asthma and age factor combined.
The study says that women with asthma, who have had chronic attacks during their puberty, may have had certain hormonal changes in their body during that period, which may later on affect their fertility.
Also, the strong medications they are given to treat asthma could also be the reason for their infertility.
Experts advise that women with asthma should try to find the best-suited treatment for their asthma, to bring it under control, before trying to conceive.
In addition, women with asthma who want to have a child must take extra care of their respiratory systems and avoid pollutants, smoking, passive smoking, dust, etc, so that they can have a healthy pregnancy.
So, women with asthma who are trying to be mothers need to take those extra precautions and also seek the help of a health care professional.
