Does Fertility Depend On Dental Health?
Children are the light and laughter of one’s life. Without them the world would be a dreary and dull place to live in. There are many couples who do all and everything to get a baby, but still wonder why they fail. There are many people in the world who yearn for a child to brighten up their lives, to make it more meaningful and happy. But many of them are unable to conceive.
Here, infertility remains as one of the major concerns for many among them. Finding out the exact reason behind infertility is very important to make a remarkable progress in it. Infertility problems are increasing day by day due to changing lifestyles and decreasing health in the society.
WHEN YOU NEED TO SUSPECT FERTILITY PROBLEMS?
There are many health issues associated with infertility like obesity, smoking, alcohol, thyroid and terminal diseases like cancer. Recently it has come to light that fertility and dental health are linked. Research has shown beyond doubt that women’s fertility linked to oral health has the ring of truth. Dental health also affects the fertility in men.
It was a previously unknown and overlooked fact that fertility and dental health are connected. Various oral diseases and the treatments used to cure that can seriously affect fertility and the pregnancy. We may now discuss some of the dental issues that affect fertility and the methods that can be used to prevent or cure them.
Gum disease: There is a link between fertility and dental health when the gum and supporting tissues are chronically infected and inflamed. This causes our immune system to respond starting a chain reaction that can lead to miscarriages or premature birth.
Gingivitis: If left untreated gum disease leads to gingivitis with the adding up of plaque and tartar in the mouth. The fertility and dental health are connected that this too causes our immune system to respond causing preterm low birth weight. PREVENT INFERTILITY, TODAY!
Periodontitis: If gingivitis is left untreated for long it leads to inflammation around the tooth called Periodontitis. This can also lead to miscarriage, premature birth or low birth weight, again linking fertility and dental health.
Caries: Caries or cavities are caused by oral bacteria that travel to the uterus as transient bacteria which can cause uterine contractions and preterm labour. This is another instance where fertility and dental health are connected.
