Unplanned Pregnancy
Today morning I get a call as early as 5 o' clock in the morning and from the opposite end all can hear is crying. After a while I realised it was my friend. After about 5 minutes, she revealed that she is pregnant and it was not planned. She did not know how to react to the unplanned pregnancy as she was not prepared for it at all. She was crying because she did not know how to react? What to think? How to make a decision? Thus, here we are with an answer for how to cope with unplanned pregnancy.

The first way to cope with unplanned pregnancy is to get a bit selfish. Selfish means that when taking a decision as to should or should not continue with the pregnancy, it needs to be your and your husbands decision and not a decision made for the happiness of the family. A child is your responsibility. The solution to cope with unplanned pregnancy is to answer these following questions -

1.Are You Both Mentally Prepared For It? - You have to be first prepared mentally for taking up the responsibility of the child. Mentally prepared for a child undertakes the questions like, do you have the time? can you change the ways of lifestyle? Can you become a good parent? Have you saved enough for a new responsibility? The husband and wife need to answer these questions and if the answer is positive then you have coped up with the it and go ahead with it.

2.Are You Healthy? - This question is for the would be mother. A healthy pregnancy is very important to ensure the life of both the mother and the child. These days, with excessive work pressure, faulty lifestyle and diet, it has become very important to visit a doctor before planning for a pregnancy. Only when your system is ready for a child, are you safe. Thus, you may or may not be health wise ready for a baby.

3.Are Both Of You Financially Stable? - Now a days, to have a baby and to bring him up is a costly affair and to match up with the competitive scenario, one cannot afford to provide a mediocre education. Thus, one needs to be financially stable. Thus, the next step is to evaluate financial stability. Financial stability does mean a good salary alone. It means savings, investments, security etc.

4.Career v/s Parenthood – A child means, a responsibility which needs a major part of your attention and mostly of the father. The nine months of pregnancy and a few years till the time the child starts with school, career needs to be your second priority. Pregnancy at the time of peak in your career, can lead to regret later.

Answer to these four basic questions will help you cope with unplanned pregnancy. Parenthood is a dream, which every man and women has but it ends up in a happy family only if it happens at the right time and under all positive circumstances. For a happy family plan your pregnancy.
