All About Milk Allergy In Babies

Milk Allergy Baby
Milk allergy is a common problem among babies. The allergy occurs when the immune system reacts to the milk protein with antibodies. This leads to an allergic reaction thus making the infant fussy and irritable. An upset stomach, diarrhea, skin rashes and vomiting are few symptoms of milk allergy in baby. Most kids are allergic to cow's milk in the beginning. Mothers who drink cow milk during breastfeeding can also be a reason behind baby's skin allergy.

Common symptoms of baby milk allergy are:

  • Poor or no weight gain
  • Respiratory problems
  • Gas
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Skin rashes
  • Dehydration
  • Loss of appetite
  • Cold or thick mucus formation in the nose and throat
  • Hives
  • Eczema
  • Asthma

Treatment for baby milk allergy:

  • If the mother is having cow milk during the breastfeeding then it is advised to quit dairy products for the treatment of baby milk allergy.
  • Avoid having cow's milk or any such milk if you breastfeed when the baby is suffering from allergy.
  • Talk to your doctor and find out alternative options to get calcium and other nutrients when quitting dairy products.
  • If you are using protein based formula, opt for soy protein based formula or baby protein formula with amino acids for the treatment of baby milk allergy. This formula contains protein in its simplest form.
  • Hydrolysed formulas have cow's milk proteins which are broken down into small particles so they are less allergic than the whole proteins in regular formulas.

Milk allergy in baby can be cured but consult your doctor before picking up protein formula.
