Mind Boggling Facts About Sleep And Dreams
"Eternal spirit of a chainless mind"- Lord Byron
Human body is the most complex mechanism ever created. Mind in itself is the most complex being that cannot be caged by anything.
Like we charge a battery, human body also needs to be charged through sleep. Sleep is the vital thing next to food and water that we need for survival.
What a human mind can do is an unsolved mystery. The full function of a mind cannot be detected.
When a human body is deprived of sleep the body tends to react on it's own. A sleep deprived person will start hallucinating, will have blurred visions, slurred speech and memory lapse.
One of the mysteries we have always faced is knowing why do we dream at the first place? And what does each dream of ours actually mean?
Well, some of us do not believe in dreams and think it's just the play of the nerves or replay of our thoughts. But here we bring you some of the mind boggling facts about dreams that are so intriguing that I can assure you will not resist but ponder about it all day long.
Dream Paralysis
The brain, during sleep, paralyzes the body in order to stop it from enacting on the dreams we tend to see. If a person's dream is disrupted in a bad way the individual might stay paralyzed for about 10 minutes.
Catalyst To Nightmares
Sleeping in a cold room increases the chances of having a nightmare. Colder the room higher will be the chances of experiencing nightmares.
Inability To Read And Tell Time
The two impossible things to do in dream is to read and to tell the time shown in the clock. No matter what you do you will not be able to read in your dream and can never decipher the time in the clock.
Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming also known as conscious dreaming is now being cultivated by humans. They can take control of the dreams and do amazing things like flying, visiting places or even walking through walls.
Addiction
Some people are addicted to dreams and never want to wake up but keep dreaming throughout the day. In order to fulfill this they intend to take an extremely potent hallucinogenic drug called Dimethyltryptamine, a chemical produced by brains naturally.
Blind People's Dreams
People who were not born blind will continue having the dreams of the events and faces that they saw while they could still see. But people who were born blind do not dream at all. They have black sleeps but other senses are heightened.
Nothing New
Human brain cannot make up faces and characters, they are not built that way. So when you see a face in your dream that you do not recognize then it might be a face you saw when you were a child or some face that you forgot about.
Colourless Dreams
Not all individuals dream in colours. There are people who dream only in black and white and have never seen colour in their dreams.
Violent Dreams Can Be A Warning
Violent dreams like screaming in a dream, violent thrashes and kicks can be a sign of a disease. These can also be the early signs of brain damage and down the line the Parkinson's disease and dementia.
Reset One's Body
The British Ministry of Defence has reset the sleep buttons of their soldiers so as to they can stay without sleep and work efficiently for more than 36 hours. Tiny optical fibres are embedded in the soldiers eyes which creates an illusion to them that they just woke up.
More Sleep Requirement For Women
It has been scientifically proven that women need an hour more sleep than men. The disruption of this extra hour is also the reason why women are more depressed than men.
