Bizarre Cultures That Will Leave You Boggled
"The highest possible stage in moral culture is when we recognise that we ought to control our thoughts"- Charles Darwin.
Yes cultures build us, molds our reality and shapes our future. But what are cultures? Do cultures and traditions ever evolve? Because even the things we call cultures and traditions now were at one point of time new discoveries.
We, living in India, a part of us thinks that our culture and traditions are the most superior things and the other half craves for a change thinking these traditions and cultures are age old habits picked up through generations.
Is it so now? We also sometimes tend to think that the western world does not pay much heed to their cultures. But when you read whats coming next you will wonder that it is sometimes best to shun those age old culture for a better and sustainable development.
Cultures mold not only us and our generations but also our souls and our future generations to come. So, it is very important what we hold on to and what we leave behind to never look back. It is not always bad to grow culturally.
At times most of us forget that the simplest things like cell phones and Ipads also have become a part of our culture. It is not only what was there from the beginning that we must follow but what is more important is setting that path ourselves, so called culture, so beautifully that the future might follow.
Now, moving on, let's check out some of the weirdest and unusual cultures around the world that will leave you thinking real hard.
Chop It Off
In Indonesia there resides a tribe called the Dani tribe who follow one of the strangest cultures. When there is a death in the family, the women of the family not only face mental pain but also physical. They chop off a part of their fingers as a compulsory ritual for the dead.
Amazing Amazon
The Yanomamo tribe of the Amazon rainforest practice the bizarre culture of endocannibalism. The members of this tribe, after a death in their family or community, wrap the dead body in leaves for 30-40 days till the insects eat the flesh up. After that they take the bones of the dead make a soup and the whole tribe drinks it as a ritual. Creepy much!
Walk On Fire For Love
A very intriguing Chinese culture persists that a man should carry his bride and walk on fire before entering the threshold of the house for her to later have a smooth labour. So much for kicking the 'kalash' in India.
Keep The Devil At Bay
We know Spain as the most vibrant and colourful country in the world but least do we know that they also are a home for some of the weirdest cultures. El Colacho, which in Spanish means baby jumping is practiced where infants are laid on mattresses and men dressed as the Devil jump over them. This way they think that the infants will not be harmed by the Devil in any way.
Smack It
In Czech Republic during Easters men go from house to house whipping women with braided willow branches to bless them with a happy fertile life.
Wish One Wish All
In Netherlands it is a tradition to wish the whole family on someone's birthday. The whole family sits in a giant circle for tea and cake.
Cinnamon All The Way
Denmark has this crazy tradition that when a man is not married by the age of 25 his friends and family ambush him with cinnamon. If you think that is ruthless listen to this one, when they are 30 and still single they pour pepper on you head to toe.
