Strange Things We Do When Asleep

For some people, sleep is peaceful and the best way to get rest. But it is not the same with everyone. In reality, there are times when we experience weird behaviours during sleep that can leave us perplexed and also completely freaked out.

According to a study, there are strange things we do when asleep. It has been proved that it is very common for people to do strange things in their sleep what they tend to do during the day. Most people suffer from sleep disorders called parasomnias and they do things that can be termed as strange in many ways.

Strange Things We Do When Asleep

According to another study, it has been found out that some of the strangest sleep phenomena actually happen between the stages of wakefulness and sleep. Have you wondered what could be some of the strange things we do when asleep?

Like most other people, even you could be talking, walking, or also could be having sex with your partner during your sleep. It is even said that some people even have fist fights with their partner during sleep. Can you believe that people do these kinds of strange things in their sleep? Here are some of the strange things human do when asleep.

Sleepwalking

Sleepwalking is a disorder and it involves getting up during sleep and walking. It is one of the strange things that humans do in the deep stages of sleep. Referred to as somnambulism, sleep walking is more common in children than adults. Generally, sleep walking occurs in childhood, somewhere between the age groups of 4 and 8 and they could last till teenage or adulthood. Some of the symptoms of sleep walking include light walking to agitated walking. The other symptoms are weird behaviour such as urinating in closets (common in children), no memory and screaming.

Feeling like falling - jolted awake while falling asleep

This is well-known as a hypnagogic jerk. It usually occurs when you are falling asleep. Hypnagogic jerk is an involuntary myclonic twitch that happens when the individual is beginning to doze off. Some people could also feel it like a huge muscle spasm. It is estimated that almost 70 percent of people experience the hypnagogic jerk. When you have a hypnagogic jerk, you might have hallucinations, the sensation of falling or loud noises coming from your brain.

Sleep paralysis

Usually, a person experiencing sleep paralysis has a terrifying feeling of being held down after falling asleep. People tend to feel that he or she can’t move a muscle or speak. This sensation can last from few seconds to several minutes. It happens when a person passes between wakefulness and sleep. Generally, persons who experience this kind of strange things while asleep (sleep paralysis) will have difficulty in breathing.

Sleep eating

Sleep eating disorder is supposedly not an eating disorder but it is related to sleep disorder. This is also referred to as nocturnal sleep-related eating disorder or NS-RED. The person who has this condition would usually get up in the middle of the night and consume food in large amounts without even realising it. For some people, the problem turns out to be chronic while for others it can occur once or twice.

Night terrors

Known as sleep terror or pavor nocturnes, night terrors is a sleep disorder. This sleep disruption is similar to a nightmare. Night terror is a strange thing we experience when asleep. It cannot be considered a dream but more of sudden reaction to fear that occurs during a transition from one stage of sleep to another. The person experiencing night terror would let out a blood curdling scream after getting up.

Confusion arousal

One of the other strange things we do when asleep is experiencing confusion arousal. This is usually compared to the antics by a drunken person. People experiencing this symptom would wake up often and do completely bizarre things. They would make odd kind of noises such as mumbling or moaning. Some of them would even talk with a remote thinking it is a phone.

Sleep talking

Sleep talking or somniloquy happens when a person talks or makes noises while they are asleep. This is one of the strange things we do when asleep and it indicates that the person has an underlying medical condition.
