Ways To Deal With A Hormonal Colleague
If your colleague is the touchy and delicate kind of a person who interprets an innocuous smile as an invitation to have his way, he is the proverbial letch. In corporate lingo he is called the hormonal colleague. If you have such type of people as your colleagues in office, you have to know how to deal with him properly. Such people are best nip at the bud.
Such colleagues can turn the office environment very uncomfortable for you and if you don't follow proper caution, it can even be embarrassing and humiliating. Recognising such people is easy as their behaviour advertises their hormonal problem. They tend to get over-friendly and don't miss out on opportunities for lecherous talk. They have a roving eye and are insolent beyond disgrace. The hormonal colleagues are driven by hormones and aren't much discouraged by minor rebuke. Here are few ways to deal with a hormonal colleague at office.
Ways to deal with a hormonal colleague:
Avoid your hormonal colleagues as much as possible: So far he/she hasn't behaved inappropriate with you but you have heard enough about him/her. Don't give any chance. Avoid as much as possible. Say no for assignments with him; tell you are not comfortable with him. If you cannot avoid working on an assignment with him be very cautious of his behaviour. Remember you have to nip him at the bud.
Be ruthless, the very first time: The very first time you feel his behaviour is inappropriate, be ruthless in telling him that you won't tolerate such things. Warn him/her that you will complain if he/she ever behaves indecent in your vicinity.
Complain the next time: If the misbehaviour continues the next time, go ahead and complain to the superior. Such people are often immune to minor rebuke and are in fact quite used to it. An official censure does the trick in such cases. Laws have turned pretty strict regarding harassment at workplace. Boss will tell him/her how quickly things can go ugly if he/she continues behaving inappropriate at office.
Talk to other colleagues and gather support: You should talk to other colleagues in office and discuss about the hormonal one's behaviour. You will find others supporting you. This will help strengthen your case because such people are often shamelessly brazen about putting blame on others.
These are few ways to deal with a hormonal colleague at office. We live in a society and one has to abide by the rules. A setup where people respect each other and don't push themselves on others is the key to survival.
