Some Interesting Facts About The Miss Universe Crown -

1. The crown that was designed from 2002 – 2007 was by an official jewellery sponsor of the Miss Universe Organization called Mikimoto.

2. The design depicted the phoenix rising which signifies power, status and beauty of the winner.

3. It has 500 30 carat diamonds (each weighing 6 grams). It also consists of akoya pearls from the south sea. The diameter of the pearl is about 3 to 18 mm, all summing up to $ 250,000.

4. The newly designed crown was first used for Miss Universe 2002.

5. In 2009, the diamond nexus lab came up with the new “eco-friendly" crown. The new Miss Universe crown contains about 1.300 gemstones weighing a total of 417 carats. The crown also contains about 544 grams of white gold (platinum+gold).

6. The rubies in the new Miss Universe crown symbolise that the pageant, a platform for HIV/AIDS awareness. The jeweler, was accordingly chosen as part of the NBC's 'Green is Universal' initiative.
