£1,055 For Elvis Presley’s Hair!

Elvis Presley
It's not a less price even for a lock of Elvis Presley's hair. A strand of Elvis Presley's hair recently fetched 1,055 pounds at an auction. The auction also made the barber who saved the strand of famous, rich too.

Homer Gill Gilleland trotted the globe with the King of Rock n Roll for more than 20 years. He used to dye the singer's hair black and then cut it, thus saving strands in a towel. He would then bundle up the towel, with hair inside, and take it home in a bag.

Following Elvis's demise in 1977, Gilleland is believed to have started selling strands of the hair in a souvenir shop on the street opposite the singer's home Graceland in Memphis in the US. The barber gave the auctioned strand to Thomas B Morgan Jnr in 2002. Morgan worked in the Sheriff's Office of Shelby County and knew Elvis.

The precious lock had been expected to fetch up to 250 pounds but raised 1,055 pounds at Henry Aldridge and Son in Devizes, Wiltshire. The hair, which comes with a certificate of authenticity, is mounted in a frame alongside a photograph of Elvis. In 2002, bidders paid a whopping 115,000 dollars online for a strand of Elvis's hair.
