Social Communication Film festival
Kolkata, Feb 14 (UNI) A total of 137 feature films,documentaries and television movies from India and six other countries will be screened in the week long "6th International Social Communication Cinema Conference", beginning here tomorrow amid huge enthusiasm of the city's large film buffs.
The Cinema Conference/Festival,to be inaugurated by noted film personality Kumar Sahani in presence of a host of other dignitaries, would have a wide package of films from Pakistan,Vietnam,South Africa, Bangladesh,Italy,Spain,Brazil and the USA.
The award winning Spanish film, entitled "Spaniosh Earth", on the country's civil war and directed by renowned film maker Joris Evans would be shown as the opening movie of the festival, while Bangladeshi director Tareque Masud's "Matir Moina" would be screened as the concluding movie in presence of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and others on February 21.
Highlighting other details of the week long extravaganza,Mr Sanjay Mukherjee, Director and Chief Executive Officer(CEO)of Roopkala Kendra, under whose banner the festival is being organised, said this time the 'Conference' had been divided into three segments-general, broadcast and narrowcast in accordance with their objectivity.
He said among the world renowned films to be shown in the festival are - 'La Notte' by Antonioni, 'Land of Freedom' by Ken Loach, 'Berlin- Symphony of a City' by Walter Ruthmann,'Who is Singing Over There' by Slobodan Sijan,'The Young Teacher' by Ki-Duk-Kim,'Goya in Bourdeaux' by Carlos Saura,'Khayal Gatha' by Kumara Sahani and 'Durbar Gati Padma' by Treeque Masud.

hold
a
number
of
seminars
and
workshops
on
various
aspects
of
film
making
during
the
festival
everyday
at
Nandan
film
complex,
Mr
Mukherjee
informed.
About
40
delegates,
including
well
known
film
makers,critics
and
others
associated
with
the
industry
would
also
attend
the
Conference
not
only
from
India
but
from
all
the
participating
countries
as
well,
he
added.
