An animal is like a baby that needs to be taken care of. So if you have a pet or come across an injured animal you will have to understand the condition for yourself and act accordingly.

Approach with care: No matter how much you love your pet and care for it never forget that it is an animal. In times of pain the animal instincts will come to the fore and you are likely to get hurt. Approach with a lot of care.

Muzzle your pet: If your dog is not vomiting it would be a wise move to muzzle it. Being an animal the first line of its defense would be to attack. Avoid injury to yourself and muzzle the dog.

Never hug the pet: There is no doubt to the fact that you love your pet but do not hug it when injured. Tips on how to look after an injured dog always suggest maintaining a certain distance in times of injury. And very importantly, keep children away from the pet.

Examine slowly: After having taken the initial precautions it is time to examine the injury. You need to be very patient and very careful. Examine the injured region very slowly. Stop if you find your pet feeling increased pain on examination. It is best to have an assistant at such times.

Having completed checkup and treatment at the vet you will be taking your pet back home. Now you need to be a little more caring than usual.

Give adequate diet: When your vet gives advice on how to look after an injured dog he will make special mention of his diet. A balanced diet helps in quick recovery and healing of injured cells.

Ensure adequate intake of fluids: It is important to give adequate amount of fluids to maintain normal functioning of the kidneys. As per the size of the dog the required amount varies. Your vet will guide you in this regard.

Give full medicine course: The doctor gives a certain dose of medicine to be completed over a period of time. Ensure to complete this course. Do not stop in between thinking the dog is ‘looking fine’ now.
