Keep Pets Safe During Diwali
Diwali might be one of your favourite festivals in the year, but when it comes to pets it is nothing but a torturous festival for your pet companions. Diwali is a Hindu festival which is all about fireworks and fun for people all around the world, but it is surely not the same for birds and animals who are frightened to death. Dogs and cats which is some of the common pets reared at home are two of the animals which spend sleepless nights on their perches and in their kennels during this festival, Diwali.
Along with this fear, these domestic animals are the falling victims to rockets and air-borne firecrackers too. It is these animals which are easily targeted by youngsters who love to play a prank on their fear. There are a lot of youngsters who deliberately play the most inhuman game of tying firecrackers on their tails. It is a sort of fun to watch animals run around panic-stricken and ultimately burn themselves.
It is these fireworks which generate a noise level that is higher than the noise which is heard from gunshots and low-level flying planes which hover above our houses. For animals like dogs and cats, these fireworks are no cause for celebration because of the loud noise. It is these firework displays and celebrations which bring a lot of confusion, anxiety, and fear into their lives. Experts say that a normal cracker sounds like a bomb to dogs due to their acute hearing capability. It is due these firecrackers that they also develop a sound phobia and other health complications due to the smoke inhaled by them.
This Diwali, it is time you show a little more love and care in taking care of your pets the proper way. Here are some ways in which you can look after your pet during Diwali.
Kandils
Hanging kandils is the most attractive decoration which adorns every home at the time of Diwali. These hanging kadils is a huge attraction to pets too. Keep them away from the hanging kandils so that they do not jump up and pull it down. Make sure that the hanging kandils are elevated at a height they cannot reach.
Rangoli
Every house is decorated with rangoli during Diwali. To avoid your rangoli from getting ruined, make sure that your pet is away from the beautiful rangoli design. They will also have the tendency to smell the rangoli powder, so keep them away from the rangoli.
Diyas
It is the diyas which adds beauty to your home during Diwali. But if you have a pet at home, these diyas might not stay for a long time. Therefore, you should try to avoid your pet from going near the diyas as they can burn themselves. Place the diyas far away from your pets.
Lights
Fairy lights is another important decoration which is seen in all houses at the time of Diwali. To keep your pet safe during Diwali, make sure that your pet does not get tangled with the lights as it can lead to electrocution and strangulation.
Your kitchen
Your kitchen is an inviting place for your pet. To keep your pet safe during Diwali, be careful what you place on your kitchen slab. All food items should be kept out of 'paw's reach'. Your pet might get carried away with the yummy sweets and savouries in your kitchen so, be careful.
Safety
Safety for your pet is very important. When you purchase your firecrackers, place it in an elevated position away from your pet. Cats and dogs can get very inquisitive at times and would want to investigate with what is in the firecracker box. Doing this will help your pet not to swallow a cracker.
Locked up
Keeping them locked up in the house is one of the best ways to keep your pet safe during Diwali. They will need to be kept in a room which receives little or not much of sound emitted from a firecracker. Keeping them locked up will keep them safe during Diwali.
