Storing Clothes Without A Closet: Tips

Living in a hostel can be a breath of fresh air. But it doesn't offer the same luxuries of living in a home. For example, storing clothes is one of the main problems you will face when you lack a closet in your hostel or your new temporary accommodation!

You have two options to store clothes - a shelf plastered with newspaper or a suitcase. In both these cases, your clothes do not remain fresh. Besides, you will find it difficult to keep your clothes pressed.

When you lack a closet to store clothes, turn to a suitcase. Storing your clothes in a suitcase has fewer issues compared to using shelves. Your clothes will remain pressed permanently.

To look after clothes without a closet, here are some of the tips to follow.

Storing Clothes Without A Closet: Tips

Storing clothes on shelf

  • Make sure to change the newspaper from your shelf every now and then. By not changing the paper, its ink will begin to bleed and thus, it will stain your wardrobe.
  • Never use newspaper that has a lot of advertisements. The colour from the advertisements will stain your clothes over a period of time.
  • It is always safe to keep dark coloured clothes on the shelf first and then the light shaded dresses over it. This is one of the tricks to use when storing clothes without a closet.
  • Leave a little breathing space between each bundle of clothes. This will not bring in moisture.
  • Insects thrive in shelves. Beware of insects that feed on paper. They will soon begin to feed on your clothes too. The best way to look after clothes without a closet is to keep some naphthalene balls in the shelves.
  • Instead of using paper, you can opt for plastic sheets. However, it will have to be changed constantly to avoid that plastic odour.

Storing clothes in suitcase

  • Another good way to store clothes without a closet is to make use of a suitcase. It keeps your clothes away from dirt and grime compared to storing it on an open shelf.
  • Place your clothes under soft cloth and then store it in the suitcase. This will keep your clothes fresh and soft.
  • Never store clothes of different fabrics in the same suitcase. If you don't have a second suitcase, place the different fabrics into separate plastic bags and then store it in the suitcase.
  • The other way to store clothes in a suitcase is to gently place them on top of each other. Pressing them together will curb air from entering thus allowing mildew to set in between creases.

These are some of the ways to store clothes without a closet. If you lack a closet, make sure you use these two options to store your wardrobe.
