You generally buy your vegetables from the best of stores to the street shops! But, the fact remains that your vegetables are not really fresh. They could be stale or unclean too in many cases. When you buy processed vegetables from supermarkets, you may find them containing a lot of chemicals that might spoil your health.

Vegetables are supposed to contribute to your health but, what if they are unable to do that. Instead of making your health better, it is actually spoiling it. The reason could be the fact that the vegetables and fruits are unclean, contain unnecessary chemicals and processing ingredients which can spoil your health.

So, what would you do under such cases? It is very important that before you use the vegetables you learn to wash them properly. In fact, you should clean the vegetables irrespective of the place you buy it from. Yes, you can buy it from the best of stores, but you cannot deny the fact that the vegetables need to be cleaned in order to make them fresh and eatable. Here are a few tips that will help you clean the vegetables before you consume them.

Keep Clean Cutlery

One tip when you are looking to clean your vegetables is to make sure the kitchen top, your cutlery, the refrigerator etc. are absolutely clean. After all you are planning to store your vegetables in there, so you need to make sure that the place is clean and manageable.

Wash the Vegetables

As mentioned it is very important to wash the vegetables. But, you should not wash them till you are about to cook them else the vegetables would be spoilt. So, when you are about to cook these vegetables, wash them nicely with fresh water! It’s not just the fresh vegetables that you got off the vegetable market that you need to wash. You also need to wash those vegetables that have been packaged and bought off a super market.

Cleaning Greens

It’s pretty common knowledge that greens tend to attract more dirt than the other vegetables. So, what you can do is after washing them with clean fresh water, cut the leaves and soak them in cold water. This way the greens would shed off the dirt and become clean and fresh. You can cook them after draining the soiled water.

Cleaning Root Vegetables

Turnips, potatoes etc. grow underground and because they are root vegetables, they tend to attract the dirt from the roots. So, you need to wash these vegetables well before you can think of using them. Follow this tip to clean such vegetable: use a brush to shed off the unseen dirt. Despite this if you feel its unclean, peel the skin off before you prepare them.

Make sure your hands are washed well before you plan to cook vegetables. Also, you need to make sure that you don’t use commercial sprays as they might harm the vegetables.
