DIY: Ways To Unclog A Sink Naturally
How many things come to our mind when we talk about maintaining a perfect functioning home? Normally, we consider large things such as electrical appliances or electrical fittings when doing the furniture of our house.
But do we ever think about those tiny drains in our kitchens and bathrooms? These small 'insignificant’ parts of the house are hardly visible to us and we do not care much about them. Not until they get clogged and become a big problem. Hence, in such situations, ways to unclog a sink naturally will be of much help.
If we are well prepared, we can find ways to unclog a sink naturally and get the job done in no time. Yes, we are talking about safe and secure natural products, which come straight out of our houses and cost us relatively nothing.
KITCHEN CLEANING TIPS FOR WORKING MOMS
It is true that the market is full of various concoctions to unclog drains. They advertise heavily and also present a very convenient option. However, we cannot forget the fact that each of these products is prepared in a lab using strong chemicals. When we use these products, they give off chemical fumes that can be harmful. In such a scenario, natural remedies for clogged sink can come to our rescue. Take a look.
Plunger: If you have drains in the house, you must have a plunger. If the need arises, you can have more than one of these wonder devices. They are very simple, no hi-tech scientific gadget but possess the marvelous capability of unclogging drains. All you need to do is cover the drain with the rubber cup side. Ensure that the drain is completely covered with no air leaks. Now, using the wooden rod and without lifting the cup off the drain cover, press it up and down. This will create a vacuum in the drain, the garbage will loosen and soon the drain will be clear. Run down a good amount of water to clear the dirt.
Repurposed wire hanger: If you do not possess a plunger, try a repurposed wire hanger. Straighten the hanger and push one end down the clogged drain. Prod around a little in the drain to loosen any garbage. Once loosened, it becomes easy for the water to pass and along with it the garbage will also flow.
Baking soda and vinegar: If you do not have a hanger or a plunger, you can still find ways to unclog a sink naturally. Look around your kitchen and you will find the necessary items – baking soda and vinegar. Vinegar has been known for its cleansing qualities. Along with baking soda, its powers increase and together they can get rid of pretty tough problems. Push a cup of baking soda down a clogged drain. Once the soda is in, pour a cup of vinegar into the drain. If possible cover the drain. If you have drain cover, nothing like it. Let the vinegar and soda do their job for around half an hour. Uncover the drain and pour down a good amount of water to clear the dirt completely.
Baking soda and salt: Baking soda works with another common ingredient – salt. Mix one part baking soda and one part of salt. Push the mix down the clogged drain. Now, boil four parts of water. When the water is boiling, pour it into the drain. The hot water combines with the soda-salt mix and unclogs the drain. But this natural remedy for clogged sink works if your drain pipe is made of metal. In case of plastic, try to avoid it to prevent damage to it.
Cola: There have been quite a lot of controversies regarding the ingredients in a cola drink. These rumours may have discouraged you from drinking them but you can still make use of them for cleaning drains. Colas are known to be very corrosive in nature and this corrosive nature is amazing for a clogged drain. We cannot say it is completely natural but it is something we consume occasionally. It can fall in the natural list to some extent.
