  • The first option if you don't want to stand for a long time on a stool and clean ceiling fan, is to dismantle the fan. You can remove all the blades and clean each on separately. Dip them in hot soap water, scrub well to remove the accumulated filth and rinse under running water.
  • This will be the most extensive way to clean room fan because it gives you the luxury to wash the fan like you wash anything else; first hand at a comfortable distance. However, there is a small problem. You have to know how to put the fan back together which most of us don't.
  • It is better not to mess with the set up of the fan if you are not hundred percent sure of its structural details. If the fan is loosely put back together the blades can fly off and cause terrible accidents.
  • The other option is the obvious one, stand on a stool or raised platform and clean. If you are cleaning fans from a distance you need to put in more effort as you will not be able to rinse it in water.
  • Start with a brush; use the brush to take of all the loose dirt of that it doesn't stick to the metal once you apply water.
  • Next take a sponge dipped in soap water and wipe the blades. If it has stubborn grease then you need to scrub it with a Scrotch Bite too. After this, take a cloth soaked in boiling hot water and wipe the blades. Finish it off by drying the fan with a clean dry cloth.

Warnings While Cleaning Fans:

  • The problem is that it is right at the top. The height is the core of the difficulty because just looking at it makes you lazy.
  • The sharp edges of the blades make it also a little dangerous for you to clean them. You have to be very watchful while you clean lest you slice your fingers.
  • You have to also make sure that you are standing on a very firm stool or chair. It is better if someone holds you from below so that they can support you if you wobble.
  • Tie your nose with a handkerchief to prevent yourself from inhaling the dust.

It is very important to be cleaning fans regularly due to hygiene factor involved. If the dirt accumulates on the fan blades then it might fall in your food or you will be inhaling it at all times. These home improvement tips will help you do the needful.
