How To Safeguard House From Fire?

By Super Admin

Fire sweeps in like a silent crawler that has the power to burn down every minute thing in the house. Before your house becomes a prey to it, check the list below to safeguard from the noiseless killer with these fire safety tips.

;

Smoke detectors

Install smoke detectors on every level of your house. Make sure to include the basement area and outside each sleeping area. If you sleep with the doors closed then install it inside your sleeping area too. Replace the batteries as directed by the manufacturer's manual. Test them every other month to be on the safer side. Make sure to replace the detectors, which are more than 10 years old.

;

Protect your home from wild fire

;

To safeguard your home from wild fire, create a safety zone around your home by clearing flammable vegetation. Make sure to keep your roof clear of leaves and needles.

Use electricity safely

Don't run extension cord under rugs or overload them. If an appliance smokes or has an unusual smell, unplug it and have it repaired. Replace any cord that is cracked or frayed. Use the right size fuses in your fuse box. Keep portable heaters and space heaters at least three feet (one meter) from anything that can burn. Make sure to keep children and pets away from heaters, and never leave them while leaving home or going to bed. Vacuum and clean the dust and lint from all heaters as a buildup of dust and lint can cause a fire.

Careless smokers

Believe it or not careless smoking is the leading cause of fire deaths in North America. So keep an eye on them to safeguard your life. Avoid people to smoke on bed or when they are drowsy. Provide smokers with large, deep non-tip ashtrays and soak butts with water before discarding them. Check under and around cushions and upholstered furniture for smoldering cigarettes, before leaving home or going to bed after someone has been smoking.

Act carefully

;

If your clothes catch fire, avoid running hastily. Instead stop where you are, drop on the ground cover your face with your hands and roll over on the ground until the flames smother.

;

If you have to escape through smoke, crawl low under the smoke to your exit.

If a pan catches fire on the stove-top, carefully slide a lid or large pan over the fire and then turn off the burner. Avoid pouring water on a grease fire as a splashed grease can ignite combustibles in your kitchen. This may spread the fire in a fraction of seconds.

If a pan fire starts inside the oven, turn off the heat and keep the door closed. This will suffocate the flames and gradually reduce. If a fire starts inside your microwave, follow the same advice. if the fire does not go out call the fire department for immediate help.

Make a perfect plan to escape from the house in such a situation. See to that there are two escape ways from each room and a meeting place outside the home. Have your entire household practice your escape plan at least twice a year.
