The festivals in India are celebrated with immense zeal and fervour. Festivals are considered to be an auspicious time. And when we think of festivals the first thing that comes to our mind is the riot of colours, flowers, energy, ornaments and lots of sweet treats which makes the occasion a lot of fun. Even some pieces of colourful clothes such as dupattas, scarf or chunnis would be used for decoration during festivals to enhance or embellish the decor. Usually the festival decorating starts at least a week before the big day as most people prefer to get all set to make their house to look the best. Colorful Rangoli designs

Usually most houses are adorned with beautiful Rangoli designs and kolams especially during special occasions such as festivals or marriages. Rangoli is considered to be sacred and used for welcoming the Hindu deities. Rangoli designs can be made using dry flour, coloured rice or with flower petals. Rangoli designs can be in geometric shapes or impressions of deities, yet the designs mostly have to go with the occasion. Door Toran

Toran or fresh mango leaves are an indispensable part of most Hindu pujas and festivals. Mostly mango leaves are hung above the doorways to welcome the deities as well as people into the house. The main reason why mango leaves are preferred is because they last longer when compared to other leaves.

Decorate your Deity

Try to get a small open mandir and make sure to place the deity in your living room during the festival. It would be nice to decorate the place with lamps and fresh flowers. Flowers are ideally used to decorate the pooja room during festivals. You spread rose petals on the floor before you place the diyas on it. Festivals are celebrated with much fervour and zeal by lighting up lamps, candles or beautifully decorated lanterns. It is easier to decorate you aarati ki thali in different ways. The simple way to decorate the Aarti ki tHali is to use flowers or flower petals.

Water Rangoli

People also prefer to embellish their house with rangoli using coloured rice flour, sand, saw dust and flower petals. To create a decorative water rangoli try to fill the vessel with water and then place the flowers according to the way you want to highlight the flowers.
