Most of us do have a closet filled with several items that are of no use and now you are wondering if it’s time to do a little of household tidying. But before you get rid of the old stuff and put them in the garbage bag let’s take a peek at some of the things that you can keep as long lost riches.

There may be several useless things that can be turned into treasures with a little bit of creativity. May be your favourite pillow case has become old and worn out and now you can't bear to throw it away. Even if it is slightly torn or stained it can still be reused in so many ways.

No need to spend on buying formal linen napkins that needs to be pressed every time you have guests at home. All you need to do is use the pillow cases that are in wide of array of colours by cutting and designing it in a way you want them to be. Make sure to choose pillow cases that are ready to sew.

Try to pick colours that do go well with your decors before cutting them. One pillowcase can yield four napkins. Try to cut a rectangle about 18 x 17. Fold about 1/2 all around edges. Try to sew 1/2 inch hem on each edges. Make sure to sew along the edge of the fold with straight stitch.

Now you have a pretty set of coloured napkins for a fraction of the cost than the regular napkins that are available in the market. These are one of the things that you can do with a pillow case.

Firstly you need to cut the sewn end of your colourful pillow case. Make sure to fold the pillowcase into half. Next cut the armholes. It has to be cut about 4 inches down and 2 inches in.

Now try to fold up the top to about 3/8 inches at the front and the back. Do an edge stitch for casing. Now glide 6 inches of ¼ inches elastic to do a gather in front. Make sure to repeat it for the back too.

Next cut two 38 inches length of double fold bias tape for the armholes. You need to fold each to half and then try stitching along the armholes, but make sure to leave additional space at the top so as to tie up the dress at the shoulders. These are one of the interesting things that you can do with a pillow case.

Wrapping paper
If you have to wrap your kid's basket ball or your favourite accessories you know that an ordinary wrapping paper would tear and cut up. And certainly your wrapping paper won’t do the trick. Try to dump your favourite stuff into the pillow case and then use a colourful ribbon to close it. You can even decorate it with no crease hair ties.

Pick a pillow case with sturdy fabric. Now find the corner. Find the bottom corners of the pillowcase and try folding the edge of your bag. All you need to do is try to crease the bottom of your bag. You need to use pins on both sides into the place so as to crumple the bottom.

Make sure to create a triangle shape. Try to do it on both the sides and pin it flat. It is better to sew along the pinned section. For converting your pillow case to a tote bag all you need to begin with is a needle and thread and a sewing machine.

Now you will have to cut your pillowcase as high so to the make your bag the way you wanted. Try to fold down the top about 1.5 inches and securely pin it. Then sew this portion to create a perfect hem. You can even add straps for your bags ( use the hemmed portion for it).

Now turn the bag inside out and try to pin the straps into the position. You can have 6 to 7 inch straps for your bag. Try to embellish your bag with floral print, or trying using beads on it.

Store Newspaper
Put your old newspapers in your threadbare pillow case so that it doesn’t turn into a clutter in your house. You can even store folded bed sheets inside the pillowcase to keep them organised and tidy. You can make use of the pillow case even to store rags. These are few things you can make with a pillow case.

Pet bed
For your dog bed make sure to decorate your old pillowcase with a nice pet theme. If you’re good at drawing then draw a dog bone or you could even try writing the name of your pet across the pillowcase. Now try stuffing some old newspapers into it. Then tie the closed end with string and make sure to trim the ends. You could even sew the end so that it won't open later.
