These are some of the things that you need to know about heart's health.
Many people die of heart diseases than due to any other cause. Heart diseases depend on many factors like your age and your family's health history. It also depends on certain other factors like smoking, level of physical activity and many more.
Cardiologists opine that about 80% of the time heart disease is preventable. Education and awareness of heart health is quite important, as it will help to change the outcome of a heart disease.
There are four factors that are quite important to be taken care of when it comes to having a healthy heart. They are blood pressure, blood sugar, blood cholesterol and body mass index values.
Taking down these stats can help your doctor keep a track of any kind of a developing heart disease in you. That includes family history, the way we eat, the way we move, etc. These answers are a reflection of your everyday activities and are a must to be checked often.
1. Blood Pressure Level:
This is the force of blood pressing against your artery walls. It has to be in the range of 120/80 mm Hg for your heart to be functioning in an ideal way.
2. Blood Sugar Level:
This is the amount of sugar or glucose in your blood which is measured by certain blood tests. For a person who is not diabetic, fasting blood sugar has to be under 100 mg/dL and postprandial sugar level (taken after meals) must be less than 140 mg/dL.
3. Blood Cholesterol:
Cholesterol is a fat-like waxy substance found in the blood. Total cholesterol must be less than 200 mg/dL in a normal person.
4. Body Mass Index (BMI):
A measure of body fat calculated using the ratio of your height and weight is body mass index. A BMI value between 18.5 and 24.9 is known to be healthy and a BMI value of 25-29.9 is considered "Overweight" and the one above 30 is considered "Obese".
