Surprising Transplants That Can Be Done
Read this article to know about some surprising transplants that can be done.
Organ transplants are very common nowadays. Heart, kidney and liver transplants are continuously on the rise these days and have been instrumental in saving a number of lives. These transplants are very common. Today we shall discuss certain transplants which we thought would not have been possible sometime back.
The first surprising transplant that we are going to talk about here is the hand. A couple of hand transplants have been done successfully. Doctors have successfully connected bones, tissues, nerves, tendons, veins and finally the skin. The transplanted limb can be used effectively after some rehab and therapy.
Face transplants have been done successfully for a long time. Doctors in this case replace all the tissues on the patient's face with the tissues of a corpse. It involves the transplantation of tissues, bones, nerves, blood vessels, fat, cartilage, tendons and muscles as well.
Intestines have also been successfully transplanted. This is done when the intestine is partially or fully removed from a person following a certain kind of disease. In this case the intestine to be transplanted can be taken from a donor or a deceased person. The intestine is transplanted into the body and connected to the gastrointestinal tract.
The last and the most surprising one is faecal transplantation. This is equivalent to blood transplant as it has been proved to be life saving. In this case healthy poop is transplanted into the body of a person in order to save his life. This is done to treat certain infections in the colon of a person and to fight it off.
Doctors have been almost successful in transplanting the uterus. Research is being carried out and doctors are saying that there is a chance of being hundred percent successful. This will prove to be a boon for women who are born without a uterus or who have had to remove it due to certain complications.
