Health Effects Of Mold Exposure
Sore throat, cough, sneezing, itchy eyes, headache, fatigue and runny nose are some common allergic reactions that occur due to mold exposure. Read on to know more about the health effects of mold.
Most of us are concerned about the polluted air outdoors but even the air inside your home can also spoil your health especially if there is mold growth.
Microbial contaminants present in the air may reach your lungs when you breathe. Mold is a fungus which grows in moist areas. Though mold doesn't kill, prolonged exposure can cause serious health issues.

Mold has a role in decomposing organic matter. That is why we see mold growth on dead trees. But when parts of your house are damp, moist and humid, mold may start breeding on the walls.
Here are some of the health effects of mold exposure.
Asthma Attack
Damp surroundings and mold exposure can trigger asthma attack in those suffering from it. People with breathing issues will suffer more. Also, those suffering from sinusitis or other lung issues suffer more when exposed to mold.
Allergies
Sore throat, cough, sneezing, itchy eyes, headache, fatigue and runny nose are some common allergic reactions that are a result of mold exposure. Some people may also develop a rash on the skin due to mold exposure.

Toxins
Molds produce chemicals known as mycotoxins. Touching the mold or even inhaling the air in a room where the walls have mold could seriously affect the health.
Black Mold
Black mold is said to cause serious health issues in infants. But studies say that all types of molds are harmful to health.

Infection
Infections like pulmonary aspergillosis may also occur in people whose immunity is weak. Microorganisms that affect the lungs may further damage health and immunity.

Firstly, the moisture in your home should be controlled as that can prevent the growth of mold. Also, all the visible signs of mold on the walls or furniture should be controlled.

Preventive Tip #2
Use a dehumidifier or air conditioner to control the moisture levels in the place. Keep all surfaces dry. Ensure that there are no water leakages or seepage. Ventilate the house well. Clean the place regularly.

Wear gloves and use soap water to wash the surfaces where mold growth is there. It is better to hire the services of professional mold removal agencies. Also consult your doctor if you have already developed allergic reactions due to mold.
