Stomach ulcer is mainly caused by a bacteria known as H. pylori. Excessive usage of painkillers could be yet another cause. Those who eat a lot of spicy foods, smoke and drink excessively are at a high risk of developing stomach ulcer.
Stomach pain, loss of appetite, weight loss, bloating of stomach accompanied by heartburn are a few of the symptoms of stomach ulcer. One needs to take care of it as soon as possible, as if left untreated it can lead to serious health issues like stomach cancer.

1. Garlic:
Rich in antioxidants, garlic helps in building up the immune system and aids in healing stomach ulcers quickly. Chopped garlic cloves can be added while cooking vegetables and consumed.
2. Apples:
If you are suffering from stomach ulcer then yet another important food that needs to be included in the diet is apples. Rich in fibre and flavonoids, apples help in preventing the further growth of bacteria that causes ulcer.
3. Green Tea:
Rich in antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, green tea helps in the prevention of bacterial growth that causes stomach ulcer. Two cups of green tea a day helps.
4. Yogurt:
Yogurt is one of the best known probiotics. It helps to fight against the bacteria that can cause ulcers. Also if you are on antibiotics for treating stomach ulcers, yogurt helps to do away with the side effects of antibiotics as well.
5. Cranberries:
Those suffering from stomach ulcer can drink a glass of cranberry juice or eat it as a fruit. It helps in preventing the growth of stomach ulcer.
6. Avoid Spicy Foods:
Spicy foods should be completely avoided if one has stomach ulcer. It causes irritation along the stomach lining and affects the ulcer.
7. Avoid Red Meat:
Meat, especially red meat is high in fat and protein and takes a longer time to get digested. In the process more acid is produced which causes irritation in the stomach lining.
8. Avoid Citrus Fruits:
Citrus fruits increase stomach acidity and cause irritation to the ulcer in the stomach. Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons and grapefruits should be avoided by stomach ulcer patients.
