Periodontal or gum disease is not uncommon. Are there signs to show gum diseases? Well, it may range from a simple gum inflammation to serious complications, resulting in damaging of the soft tissue or bone that back the teeth.

There are certain signs that you should read to understand that your gum is not in the best of health and might be developing infections.

Gingivitis, for example, is a bacterial infection which causes inflammation of the gum and if left untreated for a long time, it can lead to the separation of the teeth from the gum.

The primary signs of periodontal disease begins with gingivitis; and as the case worsens, the tissues of the gum begin receding and the root surfaces get exposed, causing teeth sensitivity.
The joint between the gums and teeth may start to become loose, causing pockets that begin hurting the bone, which results in its loss.
Formation of pus, pain and an utter discomfort in eating occurs subsequently. Such gum diseases can only be detected by a dentist. Hence, the moment you notice that something is wrong inside your mouth, set a date with a dentist.
What Causes Gum Infection/Disease?
Gum infection is mostly caused by a bad oral hygiene, which allows bacteria formation. There are also other factors that cause gum infection and they are:
• Smoking
• Chewing tobacco
• Consuming alcohol
• Uneven teeth edge
• Hormonal changes during puberty or pregnancy in women
• Overstress
• Poor nutrition and low intake of water
• Diseases like diabetes
• Poor production of saliva
• Irregular dental care

The treatment of gum diseases are generally done by periodontists who are trained in the diagnosis of the diseases of the gum and bone around the teeth.
Home Remedies To Treat Gum Disease
There are plenty of home ingredients that can be helpful in treating gum diseases. Here is a list:
• Green tea which has antioxidants that reduce inflammation.
• Mouthwash like hydrogen peroxide, which can be used as a bacteria-killing mouthwash.
• Brushing with baking soda and water to reduce the effect of acid, which can cause gum disease.
• Rinsing with sesame or coconut oil. This is not formally established, but people have said that it makes an improvement.
Gum disease can be cured and the happy state of your mouth can be restored if the disease is correctly diagnosed and at an early stage.
But, just depending on the dentist or taking in medicines won't be enough to secure your gums in the long run. Most importantly, you need to follow a healthy routine in oral hygiene.
