Bacterial vaginosis is typically a disease caused by bacteria that affects the vagina of women. This can be found most often in women in their childbearing age. This disease is caused by an imbalance of bacteria in the female vagina, leading to a disbalance in the pH factor in the vagina.
Bacterial vaginosis is an infection caused by the increase in bad bacteria in the vagina. The fishy, foul smell coming out of the vagina is the most striking symptom of bacterial vaginosis. It is usually accompanied by a foul smelling discharge, burning, itching and pain. It could likewise result in the infection in the urinary bladder, urethra and the skin close to the vagina region.
Not much has been discovered about how women get bacterial vaginosis. Any woman may get bacterial vaginosis. Earlier it was said that it is a sexually transmitted disease. But even virgins have been found to suffer from bacterial vaginosis. Hence, its cause still remains unknown.
Bacterial vaginosis for sure is not a sexually transmitted disease and having multiple partners does not cause bacterial vaginosis. Also, using private toilets, swimming pools and beds do not cause bacterial vaginosis. However, it is believed that it can be caused by the usage of vaginal deodorants, a poor diet, douching, smoking, etc.
Some women suffer from bacterial vaginosis and are not even aware of it. It is characterised by a foul-smelling discharge from the vagina. Women only become cautious when along with this there is itching in the vagina and pain during urination. The only way to find out whether you have bacterial vaginosis is to go for a test.
Bacterial vaginosis can be treated naturally with coconut oil as it has anti-bacterial properties. Regular application of coconut oil in the vagina for a few days has been seen to treat this condition. But if this does not help, then antibiotics need to be taken.
