After a night of heavy drinking, you wake up with a heavy head that keeps throbbing accompanied by nausea, dry mouth and a lack of appetite. You have a hangover. The medical term used for hangovers is veisalgia. However, instead of hanging yourself over a hangover, there are certain things that you can do to get well soon and feel better.
First of all, do not skip your breakfast. During this time there is a drop in your blood sugar level. Hence to bring up your sugar level, you can go for a glass of apple juice. You can also try other fruit juices of your choice. Also stock up on carbohydrates in the form of bread, French baguettes, etc. These will treat your mild low blood sugar levels.
Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Drinking alcohol causes dehydration. The tissues that are there around the brain mostly contain water. When there is dehydration, these tissues shrink. This creates pressure on the head. That is when you get a throbbing headache.
You could also try ginger tea if you have an upset stomach. It also helps to combat the effects of nausea. So, try a cup of ginger tea and you will surely feel better.
Heavy boozing can end up damaging the liver. Eggs contain a substance called taurine which reverses the damage caused to the liver after a night of heavy drinking. So go for eggs to stay healthy after a hangover.
Go for multivitamin pills and vitamin B12 and folate. Drinking can lead to the deficiency of these in the body. Also, due to dehydration, we lose electrolytes from our body as well. Hence, eat potassium-rich foods like spinach and banana.
You can also try breathing exercises, meditation and yoga. These will increase the flow of oxygen to your body and your head in particular, and you will feel better. Go outdoors and get some oxygen. Go for a walk or a run. Exercise helps in the release of happy hormones that help to release the stress that you suffer from after a hangover.
