Ayurvedic Treatment For Thyroid Nodules
When there is an abnormal growth in the thyroid tissues and they begin to expand, then it is referred to as a thyroid nodule. Usually the nodules are benign but in some cases, it could be cancerous too. People with enlarged thyroid nodules have difficulty in breathing or swallowing.
It can be caused due to exposure to radiation or due to the deficiency of iodine. In initial stages, it might go unnoticed due to its small size, associated with a little discomfort in breathing or speaking.
According to Ayurveda, thyroid nodules are a result of disintegrated kapha and pitta. Ayurveda recommends avoiding caffeine and spicy, junk and tinned food if you have thyroid nodules. Ayurveda also recommends refraining from sugar.
Apart from these, eating several citrus fruits and berries is good for your thyroid health. Ayurveda also recommends several herbs and remedies which can be used to cure thyroid nodules.
Here's a look at some of the Ayurvedic remedies used for treating thyroid nodules:
Flaxseeds
Flaxseeds are a rich source of Omega-3 fatty acids and are good for your thyroid health. They help in reducing inflammation and are good for thyroid tissues. It helps in producing healthy hormones in your body. But flaxseeds can have certain side effects too. It is not recommended for people who are already suffering from bipolar disorders or taking blood thinners.
Coconut oil
Coconut oil is recommended in Ayurveda for its beneficial properties in treating a variety of ailments. Coconut oil is made up of polyunsaturated compounds which don't harm your thyroid tissues. It also helps in maintaining functionalities of the thyroid gland and boosts your metabolism.
If you have thyroid nodules, you should include coconut oil in your diet. You can cook your food in it or consume two tablespoons of coconut oil daily if you have thyroid nodules.
Kachnar
Kachnar is an important Ayurvedic herb used since time immemorial in India for a variety of ailments. Ayurveda recommends it for various ailments, especially for thyroid problems. It reduces pain and swelling and regulates the thyroid gland. It helps in curing glandular diseases.
Dandelion
It is an excellent ayurvedic herb and a very rich source of vitamin A, vitamin C, betacarotene, fibre, calcium, zinc and phosphorus. Ayurveda recommends it highly because it reduces discomfort and swelling.
It can be an excellent Ayurvedic remedy if you are suffering from thyroid nodules. You can mix a few dandelion leaves with ghee and apply the paste on the affected area. Put a bandage and leave it for some time. It will help you to reduce problems associated with thyroid nodules.
Garlic
Ayurveda recommends eating garlic 2-3 times a week to reduce the problems associated with thyroid nodules. Studies have shown that it increases the production of glutathione in the body which is responsible for the healthy functioning of the thyroid.
Eating garlic is helpful for your overall health too. It helps in the production of antioxidants and overall functioning of the cells in the body. You can add garlic to your food or you can also consume it in the form OTC garlic capsules.
Licorice
Licorice, commonly known as mulethi in India is used in Ayurveda for thyroid related ailments. It keeps the thyroid and other glandular functions in check. Triterpenoid acid present in mulethi helps in stopping the growth of invasive thyroid cells.
Aloevera
It is recommended in Ayurveda for a variety of benefits. It is packed with healing and anti-inflammatory properties which help if you are suffering from thyroid nodules. Consuming it regularly will help in dissolving thyroid nodules.
