Things You Shouldn't Do After Quitting Smoking
It is very tough to battle an addiction. And battling with the withdrawal symptoms is another challenge altogether. If you fail in that phase, you may fall back into your addictions.
How Smoking Affects Your Sleep?
When it comes to nicotine addiction, you must be very careful after quitting smoking. When you are going through the withdrawal phase, you may get tempted to smoke again if you don't refrain from certain triggers.
All smokers know how difficult it is to quit smoking. It takes a lot of determination, discipline and also will power.
All your efforts may go waste if you fall in the trap of 'one last puff'. What happens when you quit smoking? Your body gets busy in healing itself by cleansing the whole system. When your body is so busy, it is better to take rest. Therefore, quitting on a holiday would be advisable. You can afford to rest while your system gets rid of all the toxins.
Now, let us discuss about certain things you shouldn't do after you quit smoking.
Curb Caffeine
A cup of coffee won't kill you but it is better to stay away from it for at least 3-4 days. Caffeine may stimulate you and may trigger the desire to go for a puff.
Alcohol
This is the most dangerous trigger. Alcohol amplifies your desire to smoke again. Wait for at least a few months before you drink alcohol.
Stress
When you are stressed out, you may feel like coping up with the situation with the help of a cigarette. Therefore, it is better to avoid stressful situations when you quit smoking.
Anxiety
Anxiety is another trigger which makes you feel helpless without a cigarette in your hands. Never let anxious thoughts get you at least during the withdrawal phase.
Challenging Tasks
Postpone all challenging tasks till your withdrawal phase is over. You my feel like smoking again if you try to undertake such tasks during that phase.
Arguments
Spend time with your loved ones when you are going through the painful symptoms of withdrawal. But ensure that you don't involve yourself in arguments as that would again trigger you to smoke.
Gambling
Remember that gambling is a crime. And trying to indulge in such activities after quitting smoking would again make you a smoker and a gambler for life. Consult a psychotherapist to seek help.
Parties
Don't attend any parties till you are normal. The ambiance, the people, the drinks and the food offered there would make you feel like smoking again.
Last Puff
This is the biggest pitfall that must be crossed after quitting smoking. Don't let that thought of one 'last puff' get you.
