Health Warnings That Your Periods Are Sending
For a woman, menstrual flow can be an indicator of her health. Most of the health conditions can be detected based on a woman's period flow, colour and other menstrual-related factors. A normal menstrual cycle can last from 1 to 7 days and the flow can be between low and moderate. The normal colour and consistency of the menses can be cranberry red and thick.
If a woman has sudden changes in her periods then it might be a signal of ill health, and hence she must visit a doctor to rule out the possible serious health conditions. Never ignore any changes in your periods, as any health condition can be treated well during its early stages.

Light Flow
If your periods have suddenly become light then it may indicate hormonal issues such as a thyroid issue (hypothyroidism). However, if you are having birth control pills then it may be a side effect of these medicines on your periods. Surprisingly, light flow can also occur due to polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).

It can also be a sign of endometriosis.
Late Periods
If you have late periods and are not a pregnant then it could be a problem of an ovarian cyst. It also occurs if your ovulation is not regular, this will make it difficult to predict your fertile days. However, if you suddenly start getting periods late then visit a doctor to rule out any health complication.
Irregular Periods
If you are obese and have irregular periods then you must have a check on your blood sugar levels. It may be a symptom of diabetes in case of women. If the hormone insulin is ineffective in metabolising the blood sugar then it has a direct effect on your ovaries.
Colour Of Your Periods
The normal colour of the menses should be red, as that of a cranberry juice. It must be thick and saturated as well. If the colour is not that then you must visit a doctor, in which case you may be having an oestrogen imbalance.
Absence Of Periods
Some women miss their periods for 4 to 5 months and the reason is not pregnancy. If a woman has normal menstrual cycles and it suddenly stops then this can say much about your health. Being obese, vigorous exercise or even being too weak can cause cessation of periods. Birth control pills can also stop your periods if taken in excess. Other health causes for this condition may include brain tumours, hyperthyroidism or a reduced function of the ovaries.
