9 Ways To Prevent Daytime Sleepiness
No matter whether you are at home or in office, whether you are doing work or simply sitting idle; it is imminent for most people to feel daytime sleepiness. In fact, many cultures have a tradition of siesta in the middle of the day.
For some people, a little drowsiness is not that much of a big deal. But for others, their sleepiness gets in the way of their work or even leisure activities. This is a type of hypersomnia that will slow you down and even cause your mood to sour.
Daytime sleepiness or laziness can be due to lack of energy, lack of adequate sleep or limited or no exercise. For an adult, the adequate amount of sleep is eight hours of continuous undisturbed sleep.
10 ILL EFFECTS OF AIR CONDITIONERS
Often with today’s hectic lifestyle, this gets interrupted by your office work or other social activities. Daytime sleepiness can greatly affect your work performance. Here are a few tips to overcome daytime laziness and drowsiness.
Exercise for energy
A lack of energy is one of the main reasons for daytime laziness. Be sure to have a regular exercise schedule. Every day find time to do an hour of walking or swimming to maintain health and increase your stamina.
Time for a nap
To overcome daytime laziness or daytime sleepiness, it is okay to take a half hour nap to re-energise your system. But, be careful that you do not sleep late in the afternoon, which can interfere with your night time sleep.
Slow and steady
Trying to finish all your tasks at the same time will only lead to stress, decreasing your energy levels. Instead, set a steady pace for all your tasks to help overcome daytime sleepiness or laziness.
Night time sleep
Not having proper sleep at night is a huge reason for daytime sleepiness. Make sure that you get the adequate amount of sleep at night. Leave all pending works for another time.
Well-balanced diet
Having a well-balanced diet plays a huge role in preventing daytime sleepiness. Eat foods that provide quick energy and make sure to have your meals at the same time every day.
Dinner befitting a pauper
Good eating habits can help overcome daytime sleepiness. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a lord and eat dinner befitting a pauper. A light supper a couple of hours before bedtime should be ensured.
Stress management
All of us have some sort of stress in our daily life. If there is too much stress, it can affect our sleeping pattern causing us to have disturbed sleep. To overcome daytime sleepiness, do proper stress management.
Relax before bed
Before you go to sleep, make a conscious effort to empty your mind of all thoughts and relax your body. Doing some relaxation exercises can also be useful in having a good sleep and overcoming daytime sleepiness.
Counselling
Despite all this, if your daytime sleepiness persists in a way that seriously undermines your performance at work, you should not hesitate to approach a professional counsellor or doctor who can help you cope with this.
