12 Healthy Ways To Relax Yourself
The definition of relaxation is different for everyone. We are bound by the rules of office and work pressure every day. So, most of us like to choose our ways to relax according to our own whims and fancies. However, all relaxation techniques are not strictly speaking healthy. Almost anything can be a stress-buster for you. For example, some people like slouch on the couch and watch television from the moment they come home from work. Now this may be a way to relax but it is definitely not healthy.
Many people are addicted to caffeine and thus find it relaxing to sip on a mug of frothy coffee. But the fact remains that caffeine dehydrates your body and does not do you much good. So drinking coffee is not a healthy stress-buster. Surprisingly, very few people develop healthy habits to relax. I mean you can you can even unwind over a cup of ginseng tea instead of coffee.
It is very important that you give your healthy habits precedence over your bad habits. That is why, you must choose healthy ways to relax. Unhealthy stress-busters might relax you momentarily but they will not rejuvenate you. You must relax in healthy ways so that you can also recharge your energy levels.
Here are some ways to relax and feel rejuvenated at the same time.
Breathe Deeply
Most of the times we use only one-fourth of our lung power. All your lungs get used only when you take deep breaths. Breathe deeply for 5 minutes at the end of a tiring day and you will feel more energetic.
Soulful Silences
Music is definitely a way to relax yourself, but sometimes your eardrums also need some rest. Don't switch on the television as soon as you get home. Sit quietly and enjoy your solitude for sometime.
Read A Book
We read and write for learning and earning. But reading for pleasure is a very healthy habit. Go to bed with an interesting book and you will find that your mind is refreshed. You will never lack for ideas if you are a creative person.
Take Dance Class
Dancing is the most enjoyable form of exercise. Firstly it is fun and then you also end up shedding some weight. Take a salsa or zumba class after work and you will start feeling much happier.
Sweat It Out
You might already be shaking your head reading that exercise can relax you. But trust me it can. It is better to spend an hour in the gym or running in the open than lying at home feeling lethargic. The latter is always more depressing.
Take A Hot Shower
There is nothing like a hot shower when it comes to relaxing you. A hot shower rejuvenated all your senses and the smell of soap makes you ready to go again.
Go For A Date
Social interaction is a great way to relax. Going on a date and discussing unimportant things with a friend or even a stranger can be relaxing. And if you are married, then it is the perfect excuse to spend some time with your partner and release any tension amongst yourselves.
Visit A Spa
Spas are mushrooming everywhere only because our stress levels are increasing. If you think spas are expensive, then the money is worth it. At least you feel alive after going there and have the energy to carry on with the next day's work.
Have Herbal Tea Instead Of Coffee
Caffeine is a bad habit that relaxes you but eventually causes damage to your health. It is much better to have green tea or ginseng tea because its effects on your mood will be the same.
Play Chef At Home
Cooking is not a hard work if you love to sharpen your culinary skills. Instead of sitting in front of the television with a pizza, try to cook up an exotic dish in your own kitchen.
Have Deep Sleep
Being active is important but not at the cost of some minimum rest. When you go to sleep, switch off all your communication gadgets and turn the lights out. You need 6 to 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep to feel fresh in the next morning.
Eat Out At Your Favourite Restaurant
Food is the biggest stress-buster of all. So if you are feeling stressed and low, go to your favourite restaurant alone. Order a large meal for yourself and relish every bite. But don't do this too often or else you will start bloating.
