Foods That Cause Bloating
Bloating can make you look pregnant. You wake with a flat stomach, but by the end of day, you seem to observe a bulging tummy. You feel full and tight all the time and this is all caused due to bloating. And then you think, what exactly is bloating? Bloating is the excessive gas in the intestines. Constipation, over-eating, bad eating habits, air swallowing, irritable bowel syndrome and PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome) are common causes of bloating.
Even foods that causes gas can lead to bloating. You can control bloating by excluding few foods from your diet. For example, spicy and fried foods can be one of the major causes of bloating. The stomach takes much time to break down these greasy food particles thus causing gas and bloating gradually. Even spicy foods like chaats, black pepper, bell peppers, red chilli etc increases the secretion of stomach acid. This can lead to bloating. So, exclude the below foods from your diet as they cause bloating.
Foods that cause bloating:
Spicy food
We love to hog on spicy foods as they increase body's metabolism and taste delicious. However, spicy food disrupts the digestion process and can also cause inflammation in the stomach.
Starch
White bread, pasta, potatoes, all purpose flour are rich in starch. Starch is difficult to digest, so it is broken down in the large intestine thus causing gas, dehydration and bloating. So, exclude starchy foods from your diet.
Brussels sprout
It might be a healthy food but for some it might cause gas. Few people do not have the capacity to absorb and tolerate such gas producing foods.
Cabbage
This is another gas producing food that digests slowly thus causing bloating.
Fruits
Few people suffer from fructose intolerance. If you feel that you are suffering from gas few hours after eating a fruit, exclude that fruit from the diet completely. Fructose intolerance can lead to bloating.
Fried foods
Pakoras, samosas, french fries and burgers are yummy! But, these greasy foods do not digest easily and can cause gas and bloating.
Salt
Foods high in sodium retains water from the body which leads to bloating. Avoid foods that are salty like processed foods.
Spices
Few spices like black pepper, nutmeg, clove etc can cause bloating as they digest slowly thus disrupting the regular digestive functioning.
Lentils
For many people, lentils can be one of the major reasons behind bloating. Lentils are one of the most well known gas producing foods which must be excluded from diet if you suffer from bloating.
Dairy products
Lactose intolerance can also increase the chances of bloating. The broken lactose will pass on to the colon and bacteria that breaks down lactose causes gas. If you suffer from bloating due to dairy products, exclude it!
