Stomach bug is an illness which is caused due to stomach germs and virus which attack the digestive system and causes intestinal distress. The affected faces an upset stomach and poor digestion. In worst cases the it leads to abdominal cramps, headaches and fever.

Symptoms of stomach bug are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, unhygienic food and abdominal pain.

Treatment of Stomach Bug:

  • Stomach flu or stomach bug leads to dehydration so have lots of water to make up for the lost levels of electrolytes.
  • Don't stop yourself from passing out. Let the stomach flu treatment go naturally.
  • Have only clear fluids like fennel tea, ginger tea, buttermilk, lemon lime soda and ginger ale apart from water. Avoid dairy products like milk and milk shakes.
  • Caffeine consumption adds to the dehydration so avoid coffee. Also avoid alcohol and juice during stomach flu.
  • Have light food like cracker biscuits, fennel seeds, bread, broth and rice. Rice cools the digestion upset so have it with yogurt or buttermilk.
  • Avoid egg, fish, meat and mutton. Having spicy food will add to the upset stomach.
  • Licorice root, marshmallow root are good or stomach flu treatment.
  • Meadowsweet tea and valerian tea are clear fluids to smoothen digestion.
  • Abstain from eating. Eat less and it is better to keep the stomach empty than stuffed.
  • Fruits like banana, papaya and apple are good for stomach bug treatment.
  • Pepto Bismol is a medicine to stop dysentery but consult a doctor before taking it.

It is advisable to walk when you start recovering and allow smooth bowel movement. Avoid lying flat and have dilute apple cider vinegar. Increase intake of water. Baking soda with lemon cures acidity and fights dehydration. Stomach flu leads to abdominal pain so use heating pad to get relief from the cramps. Have antioxidants to build electrolytes and treat stomach bug. When you start recovering, gradually get back to the normal food but avoid spicy and heavy on digestion food for a week.
