Steps To Enhance Your Brain Power

By Suparna Chakaraborthy

Brain Power
Experts say that that an healthy brain is the one which is optimally used but generally human beings use only 1/4th of their brain's ability to do their work. Healthy brain is the one which is equipped with good memory, visual understanding and amazing analytical understanding. Brain is the super computer of the whole system and thus it is necessary to keep it alive and working. John H. Byrne, has suggested some activities that may enhance memory and promote overall brain health.

John H. Byrne of the University of Texas studied the neuronal and molecular mechanisms underlying learning&memory and offers the following three tips for maintaining and improving brain health.

1.Exercise

Exercises are needed not only to keep your body toned but also to make your brain work better. Yoga is the best way to exercise and rejuvenate your brain. "Everyone knows that exercise is good for the heart, but what they may not know is that exercise also appears to be good for the brain," said Byrne.

"There is a lot of recent evidence demonstrating that exercise itself promotes neurogenesis - the generation of new nerve cells in the brain," he said.

2.Diet

Few things are needed to be included in the diet to enhance our brain power. There are specifically some ''brain foods'' that seem to have a benefit on the brain.

"New research shows that Omega-3 fatty acids, such as those found in salmon and other fish, may build the brain's gray matter. Foods and beverages that are rich in antioxidants may also help keep the brain sharp.

"For brain food, consider a glass of red wine, some salmon, blueberries, a little bit of chocolate or a cup of green tea.

Staying slim appears to promote brain health, so exercise, watch your calories and eat the right types of food," said Byrne.

3.Brain activity

"You've heard the saying, Use it or lose it.' It's true," Byrne said.

"Those who are intellectually active have a lower incidence of Alzheimer's. You must exercise your brain cells just as you exercise your muscles, so read a book or do a crossword puzzle.

"Those types of activities can protect your brain," suggests Byrne.

In comparison to other parts of the body, brain needs a lot of care. The best way to keep your brain alive is to keep it active.
