Skimmed Milk Vs Full Fat Milk: Which Is Better For You?
We all know that milk is a wholesome food as it contains vitamins and minerals. For children, two glasses of milk a day is a must. Apparently, for grown-ups, milk is a necessary food too. Experts say that drinking milk reduces the chances of heart attack and stroke.
If you are into daily exercises, then you should drink milk as much as you can as it retains the protein components of your body along with providing other vitamins and minerals.
Now, there are low fat skimmed milk and full fat milk available at dairies. Before deciding the right milk for you, you need to know what skimmed milk is and what full fat is.
Cow’s milk, which contains 3.8 percent fat on average, is known as full fat milk. Skimmed milk is also cow’s milk but the fat is around 0.15 percent.
Both these types of milk have different types of nutrients in them. However, the presence of fat differentiates these two types of milk. In today’s life, people have the tendency of putting on weight. So, it’s better to avoid fat from the most essential food, milk. Take a look whether it's skimmed milk or full fat milk that is better for you.
Dieting:
When you are dieting, always go for skimmed milk. As skimmed milk is processed by reducing the fat present in full fat milk, it's better to have it when you are trying to lose weight.
Keeps your heart safe
Full fat milk has a prominent amount of saturated fat, which is a big disadvantage. Besides, this type of milk is also rich in cholesterol. So, intake of these two components regularly increases your exposure to fatal diseases such as heart attack and stroke.
High blood pressure
If you are suffering from high blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases, then switch to skimmed milk. Research suggests drinking skimmed milk lessens the attack of coronary heart diseases and arterial hypertension.
Source of calcium
Skimmed milk is a big source of calcium. Women and children must drink it in sufficient quantities. Diseases such as osteoporosis and arthritis can be prevented by drinking skimmed milk.
Fertility
Research suggests that a woman's ability to ovulate can be at risk if she drinks too much fat or skimmed milk. But, female fertility can be improved by having high fat dairy foods. So, while planning for a baby, start drinking whole milk.
Cancer
Some theories suggest that skimmed milk reduces the chances of colorectal cancer. Again some researches opine that full fat milk prevents the possibility of prostate cancer, while skimmed milk augments the chances. It is still hard to draw any conclusion regarding this matter.
