20 Healthy Leaves To Eat
We keep hearing this over and over again, that by including green and organic food in our diet, half of our health problems would be solved. Then it surely makes sense to know about healthy leaves to eat. There are some healthy leaves that are part of our diet traditionally. For example, spinach is a green leafy vegetable that has always been used as an ingredient to prepare tasty dishes.
These healthy leaves are part of our diet in varying forms. Some healthy leaves that can be eaten are also herbs and spices. We all use healthy herbs like thyme, parsley and mint to garnish our food. A portion of these healthy herbs are also used medicinally. For example, we have basil leaves in order to cure cough and cold.
All the healthy leaves that we should eat are not green. We have this notion that its only green leafy vegetables that have health benefits. But vegetables and herbs with red leaves also have many unique health benefits. That is why vegetables with red leaves like amaranth are also included in the list of healthy leaves to eat.
Parsley
Parsley is the larger variety of the native coriander leaves. It is a very healthy herb that helps to flush out toxins and improve kidney function.
Fenugreek
Fenugreek is a green leafy vegetable with two main nutritional benefits; it is a rich source of iron and Vitamin K. Besides that, fenugreek leaves are very good for diabetic patients.
Spinach
Spinach is the star among green leafy vegetables. It is a rich source of Vitamin K and iron and also gives you lots dietary fibres.
Cabbage
Cabbage is a vegetables that we can have in both- cooked and raw state. It has abundance of Vitamin C and gives you plenty of roughage to keep your bowel movements regular.
Mustard Greens
Mustard greens are a popular green leafy vegetable in India. These leaves of the mustard plant have a spicy flavour and has lots of Vitamin A to improve the health of skin and eyes. They are also rich in antioxidants.
Mint Leaves
Mint leaves make excellent mouth freshers for those who suffer from a problem of bad breath. It helps to cool down the stomach and improves digestion.
Lettuce
Lettuce is a vegetable that is used in salads. It has a crunchy taste that makes it a great leaf to eat raw. Lettuce has almost nil fats and loads of vital nutrients.
Curry Leaves
Curry leaves have lots of health benefits like preventing indigestion and aiding weight loss. They also help your hair grow faster and thicker.
Asparagus
Asparagus is a rich source of Vitamin C and E. It had lots of folate in it. Having asparagus protects you against throat cancer.
Red Amaranth
Red amaranth is a vegetable that is best enjoyed in salads. This vegetable has twice as much calcium as milk and much more zinc than eggs.
Basil Leaves
Basil is a natural cure for sore throat, cough and cold. Basil has lots of anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.
Dandelion
Dandelions are famous for being rich in calcium and iron. But they also contain many trace minerals like manganese, phosphorus and potassium.
Onion Greens
Onion greens are rich sources of antioxidants. They can protect you against many types of cancers. Having onion greens also helps lower your blood sugar.
Collards
Collards are the richest leafy sources of Vitamin C. They boost your immune system and help protect against many minor diseases.
Oregano
Oregano is probably the only leafy source of omega-3 fatty acids for vegans. It also contains plenty of Vitamin K and antioxidants.
Kale
Kale has more iron than beef and it gives you a boost of various minerals. Kale has zero trans fats and cholesterol. It gives you plenty of roughage to fill your stomach and help you lose weight.
Thyme
Thyme is a very beneficial herb for digestion. It is particularly useful for digesting red meat. It also helps improve bowel movements and avoids flatulence.
Betel Leaf
In India, betel leaf is used as a mouth freshener to be eaten after meals. Betel leaves help ease digestion. It also protects you against respiratory diseases.
Rosemary
The herb rosemary is a natural pain reliever and also helps cure migraine headaches. Rosemary boost your memory and immunity.
Chard
Chard is a green leafy vegetable that is extremely rich in Vitamin K. It also has very little calories so it is great for weight loss.
