Cold and a running nose are caused when people come in contact with the allergens, which might be food, pollens, the chilly weather and this in turn leads to the production of a chemical called histamine. It is this chemical that causes a running nose, cold and sneezing among people, especially during the winter season. It is the people who have a low immunity level who are among the worst affected.

Take half a bowl of hot water, cover your head till the neck region, place your face right above the bowl and inhale the steam. Do this 2-3 times a day. It helps in clearing the mucus and prevents a running nose.

One of the best home remedies for a running nose is eucalyptus oil. Put a few drops of it in the bathing water and then take bath with it. It helps.
Honey is known for its anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties. Add about a teaspoon of honey in a glass of warm water, stir it well and then drink it twice a day. This helps in preventing cold and a running nose.
4. Rinse The Nostrils With Saline Water:
Add a teaspoon of salt to a glass of warm water. Put a few drops of this water inside one nostril, keeping the other closed. Try to take out the mucus from it. This helps provide relief from cold and a running nose.
Chamomile tea is one of the best home remedies for cold and a running nose. Just add a few dried chamomile flowers to hot boiling water and keep it for a while. Strain the tea; you could add a teaspoon of honey if required and then drink it twice a day. It helps.
Take a few basil leaves, wash it thoroughly and then just chew it early in the morning and before going to bed. This helps in preventing a running nose.
7. Hot Soup:
Prepare a soup using chicken; vegetarians can use carrots and beetroot. Have this soup twice a day. It helps in reducing the running nose problem.
8. Increase In Fluid Intake:
Increasing the fluid intake, be it water or fresh fruit juice, helps in hydrating the body and restricting the nasal secretion as well. This helps ease cold and the running nose problem.
