There is nothing more agonising and irritating than going through dust allergy. The symptoms can sometime lead to severe nasal congestion, difficulty sleeping or wheezing, shortness of breath worsening rapidly. Such times, it is best advised to consult a doctor immediately. Most symptoms of dust allergy are similar to common cold making it difficult to determine if it is due to dust allergy. Common symptoms of dust allergy include sneezing, runny nose, itchy, red or watery eyes, nasal congestion, itchy nose etc.

It important to have home remedies and simple self treatments handy when you are prone to dust allergy. Consulting a doctor, unless it is severe, is not advisable for common symptoms. As the symptoms are similar to common cold, simple way to determine dust allergy is to see if symptoms are persistent for more than a week. Sometimes dust allergy leads to asthma, bringning in lot of discomfort. Dust allergies occur when your immune system reacts to a foreign substance such as pollen, pet dander or dust mites.

The best strategy to avoid dust allergy is to reduce your exposure to dust. Large numbers of dust mites can gather in mattresses, bedding, and upholstered furniture. Start with keeping your home and living spaces clean and dust free. Make sure your work area is cleaned regularly and is dust free to a large extent. When you are out in open, try to wear a nasal mask or a cloth covering your nasal area to avoid breathing dust to large extent.

Many of the medicines are now available over-the-counter from pharmacies and your pharmacist will be able to advise on which are most suitable for you. Antihistamines tablets and syrups prevent the histamine your body produces to the allergen from causing the allergic symptoms.

Many times dust allergies result in asthma attack. Allergens in the form of pollen, dust, dust mites in atmosphere can trigger asthma when exposed to it. Asthma is a chronic disease in which sufferers have repeated attacks of difficulty in breathing and coughing.
Sometimes asthma can become sever resulting in severe shortness of breath, bluish skin colour, drowsiness etc.

Avoid prolonged exposure to dust and smoke. Keeping your living space clean of dust and dust mites with regular cleaning can help. Although asthma cannot be cured it can usually be well treated according to the symptoms. You can use Relievers, which is quick-acting medicines that relax the muscles of the airways or Preventers, which act over a longer time and work by reducing the inflammation within the airways.

Eczema is an itchy inflammation of the skin, associated to a varying degree along with signs such as redness of affected areas of skin, Thickened dry skin patches, lumps or blisters in affected areas and signs of superficial infection. It mostly attacks children and less likely to affect adults above 40. There is said to be an increase of eczema due to prolonged exposure to house dust mite and other environmental factors.

Eczema treatment is generally effective in most people - but severe eczema can be difficult to clear. Good adherence to the basic elements of treatment will usually work well, but only rarely can eczema be said to be curable.
