Nomophobia: 7 Signs You Have It!

Nomophobia, you must be wondering what is this new kind of phobia. To put it simply, any kind of unnatural or unreasonable fear is termed as phobia. The fear of losing one's mobile phone or being without it is called nomophobia. In the last few years, this has become one of the most common phobias amongst the all. The other common phobias are fear of spiders and public speaking!

So that gives us an idea how technology dependent our lives have become. We are totally dependent on certain gadgets to go through our lives and mobile phones tops the list. That is why, even the thought of losing our mobile phones, sends a shiver down our spine. A recent survey by SecurEnvoy, says that 66 percent of people who have mobile phones are nomophobic.

Are you one of the people who have this common phobia? Check for these signs to know if you have nomophobia.

1. You Dream About Losing Your Cellphone: Do you get nightmares in which you lose you mobile phone and wake up in panic to grab your cellphone? Dreams are a mirror of our innermost thoughts. They show us thoughts that we hardly knew existed.

2. Do You Sleep With Your Phone: So people just cannot go to sleep without their phone under their pillow or next to them. If you are one of them, see a doctor; you really need help.

3. Anxiety Attacks If You Can't Find It: Suppose you keep your phone on your bed and it gets lost under a pile of clothes. When you realise it is missing, do you break into cold sweat or feel a deep sense of helplessness? Being a little upset is normal but an anxiety attack is a cause of concern.

4. Do You Take Your Mobile To The Bathroom: Whatever important calls you are expecting can wait for your loo break. Until and unless there is an emergency life and death situation, this kind of behavior classifies as nomophobic.

5. Keeping two mobile phones: Some people keep two mobile phones so that just in case they lose their mobile phone, there will a spare one ready. It is alright to have 2 phones but being so anxious about keeping a spare one is obnoxious.

6. Low Battery Low Mood: Many people get into a snappy mood when their phone shows a low battery signal. They get irritated or depressed because they are totally panicking about their phone running out of battery.

7. Flight Mode: Are you the first person to switch on the phone as soon as your flight lands? This shows that you hate being disconnected or out of network.

If you display atleast 4 of these 7 signs, you probably have nomophobia. Try to get it treated by therapy because any kind of unnatural fear is not good.
