Foods That Prevent Colon Cancer

In our body, colon has five different parts, namely the ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon, sigmoid colon and the rectum. When food is consumed, it passes through each of these parts. The term colon cancer refers to malignant tumour in any one of these parts.

Colon cancer usually occurs when the cells in the colon are exposed to carcinogens or chemicals that damage the DNA of the cells. The damage caused to the cells leads to mutation and they start reproducing out of control, which will later spread to other organs and eventually lead to death.

Though genetics and location have a role in this disease, the food habits of a person too play the most important part. Eating healthy is the key here and concentrating more on the foods to prevent colon cancer.

Foods such as meat, refined grains, desserts and fat need to be avoided to prevent colon cancer. Studies have shown that people who do not eat healthy are at high risk of colon cancer. Below are a few foods to prevent colon cancer.
