Asana Of The Day: The Tree Pose

Not everyone can be a fitness freak. But everyone certainly needs to be fit. S if you don't like hitting the gym 5 days in a week, how will you keep fit? You can simply do this by practicing some yoga asanas every morning. That is why Boldsky brings to you, the asana for today, the tree pose. This yoga pose is also called the Vrksasana.

In Sanskrit, 'Vriksha' means tree and we already know that in yogic terms, 'asana' means a pose that is the equivalent of an exercise. Lets see how you are supposed to do the tree pose in yoga.

Tree Pose

Steps To Do The Tree Pose:

  1. Stand straight with your feet together. Your feet should be straight and at perpendiculars to your body.
  2. In this yoga asana you have to balance yourself on one of your feet. To do this you need some support. But you are prohibited to take support from the furniture or walls in your house.
  3. So spread out your hands horizontally to get some balance in your posture. Make sure that both your arms are at the same level or else you will be unbalanced
  4. Now slowly lift your right leg, fold it at the knees and place it on your left leg. Your your folded leg must touch your straight leg on the side of your knees. This will ensure that your body is in perfect proportions.
  5. Once you have found some balance standing on one leg, slowly lift your arms upwards. Finally join them in a 'namaste' over your head.
  6. You must stretch out your arms as much as possible over your head. At this stage you resemble an actual tree.
  7. Come back to the 3rd step (standing with arms to balance yourself) and then repeat the tree pose with the left leg.
