Once you find out that you have high blood sugar levels, you should make certain changes to your diet and your lifestyle. Take the guidance of your physician and find out what foods you should include in your diet and which ones you should avoid. Check your sugar level often so that the sugar level does not go beyond the proposed level.
It is always advisable to avoid some foods if you are diabetic like refined sugar, desserts, syrups, glucose, jam, molasses, fruit sugar, ice cream, cakes, pastry, sweet biscuits, chocolates, carbonated drinks, condensed milk, cream and foods which are fried. Avoid all unhealthy foods, junk food, cookies and canned and preserved foods.

Drink green tea or herbal tea like parsley tea, blueberry leaf tea and tea made from tender walnut tree leaves. Also, research has proved that water in which kidney bean pods have been cooked is good for diabetes.
Foods that ought to be consumed in moderation are honey along with other natural sugars like palm sugar and dates which may be used rather than white sugar. Low fat food like skimmed milk and low fat home made cottage cheese may be consumed in moderation.
Whole grains, fruits, nuts, veggies and milk products form a great diet for the diabetics. The best part of eating high fibre diet is that it lowers the requirement for insulin. It has also been found that diabetes mellitus decreases and could even disappear in individuals eating a high fibre or whole food diet. High fibre diet contains a lot of chromium and chromium is great for individuals with diabetes.
Eat large amounts of potassium rich foods like raw nuts, tomatoes, bananas, melons, dry peas, potatoes, apple cider vinegar, skimmed powdered milk and wheat, but don't take potassium supplements. Include soluble fibre in your diet like barley, oatmeal, almond, dry beans, kidney beans, cooked black beans, peas, cereals and garbanzo beans.
