Less is More! Getting A Minimalist Look This Fall
It's finally time to turn over a new leaf. Pun intended. Fall's around the corner, girl and you better be ready to pull off the most coveted trend this season.
The Capsule Wardrobe has been making rounds on social media for a while now and it's basically having a limited yet versatile collection of clothes that are classic and still refreshingly new.
Pantone's Colours for Fall are Stormy Weather (a deep grey), Oak Buff (a mild brown), Dried Herb (a rich olive), Marsala (a full-bodied wine red, also Pantone's Colour of The Year, 2015), Biscay Bay (a cool teal blue), Cadmium Orange (a soft orange reminiscent of the Retro era), Cashmere Rose (a delicate pink shade), Desert Sage (a light hue of green), Reflecting Pond (a dark blue, the darkest shade among the fall colours) and Amethyst Orchid (a luxurious lavender).
We are glad to note that this palette is truly uni-sexual in its nature and men can flaunt these tints as proudly as the women. Keep these shades in mind as you build your image this season and fret not, we're here to help you get the look with these simple tips.
Neutrals. I cannot stress enough over the importance of having neutral colours in your closet, also most of Pantone's colours for this season are neutrals! White, black, greys, nudes, taupe, ivory, metallics and soft earthy tones are the go-to shades all through the year and especially right now.
They are a must have for everyday outfits and you can also choose whether or not to accessorise depending on the time of day or the nature of the occasion.
Neutrals allow for a clean, blank canvas that let you get creative, they do not distract from your face and features and also keep you looking chic and feminine at all hours. It is advisable to wear a mostly neutral coloured outfit and glam it up by adding brightly hued scarves, shoes, jewellery, bags or make-up.
The pale backdrop will make your accessories seriously pop (if you wear any) but remember, too many colours will take away from the minimalist look that trending right now.
Warm and Cool Colours. Sounds alarming? Relax. It's really easy to tell which colours are warm and which ones are cool. Cool colours are roughly green, blue and violet, one half of the rainbow, they're colours that bring an icy, cool feeling which is why most winter collections sport these shades.
Warm colours are usually red, orange and yellow, the remainder of the spectrum, they remind us of fire and hence, bring a cosy warm feeling. Since fall is the transition from summer (the hottest season) to winter (the coolest) we are free to incorporate both warm and cool colours to our closets.
Add fiery red suede pumps to simple nude trousers, throw on a navy blue blazer atop a crisp white shirt, pair an orange skirt with a pale powder blue blouse, don purple hued sunglasses over a plain grey top or carry a gold metallic clutch with a black slip dress.
Feel free to add warm or cool colours to your neutrals to amp up the look and accessorise wisely so you feel like a true fall diva, day and night.
De-clutter. Yes, no woman has ever said, "I have too many clothes," but it's time to rummage through your closet and de-clutter. Find every piece of clothing or accessory that you haven't worn in over a year and dispose of them no matter how pretty they look. If you haven't worn something even once in an entire year you probably never will so let your closet breathe a little by making room for some new fall favourites.
A capsule wardrobe allows only a limited amount of apparel and add-ons so prioritise, keep only the classics that can be worn all year round like dark wash jeans, white shirts, solid neutral coloured tops, skirts and accessories, simple footwear in pastel shades. You basically need to own a piece of every style of clothing.
Ditch stereotypes and stick to the originals, experiment with shirts, tees, skirts, sweaters, scarves, kurtas, jeans, trousers and accessories, keeping in mind the fall shades. Let there be a balance of warm, cool and neutral hues as well as in pairing up the clothing itself.
If you plan to wear a mini skirt, wear a fluffy sweater with it or if you want to show your arms off in a tank top, make sure you have a long skirt or trousers to compliment the look, well you get the idea. Don't forget that fall is all about making a transition from a hot summer to an icy winter, so keep your look very minimal yet in trend.
Having a capsule wardrobe makes you a fashionista just as much as hoarding gorgeous clothes does, so make sure you give it a real try before you diss it as something not cut out for you. You'll be surprised at just how much you can play around with a few colours, pieces of clothing and accessories to glow like a fall goddess this season. Less is Best!
