Bollywood Style Notebook: Fashion From 'Parineeta'

|

The word Parineeta means The Married Woman. The novella Parineeta was written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay in the year 1914 and there have been several film adaptations of the same. The one we're discussing today in the 2005 Bollywood version of the book, the film is called Parineeta. Directed by debutant Pradeep Sarkar, it is based upon a screenplay by the film's producer, Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The film features Vidya Balan, Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt in the lead roles. Raima Sen plays thesupporting role of Lalita's chirpy cousin. Dia Mirza, with a cameo appearance as Shekhar's fiancé and Rekha, with a cameo performance of a night club (Moulin Rouge) singer, are other notable performances.

Parineeta primarily revolves around the lead characters, Lalita and Shekhar. Since childhood, Shekhar and Lalita have been friends and slowly this friendship blossoms into romantic love. A series of misunderstandings surface and they are separated with the schemes of Shekhar's wealthy father. The plot thickens with the arrival of London-wale Girish Sharma who supports Lalita's family. Eventually, Shekhar's love defies his father's greed and he seeks Lalita, against all odds.

Bollywood Style Notebook is a feature in Boldsky that looks into the style trends inspired by Bollywood films. Today, as you might have guessed, we're looking into the movie Parineeta. Vidya Balan is the lead actress on the feature film. She plays a woman of dignity with unflinching love for Shekhar. A lovely singer, who's resigned to the circumstances, upholding her respect when she faces insult. This young lady also has an impeccable taste for sarees and Indian clothes. Let's see what they are.

1. Pink Saree From Piyu Bole:

This lovely pastel pink saree has us gasping for more. Vidya really pulls off saree looks well and this look of hers is something all women must try. The lovely pink shade and the feminine embroidery makes the song surreal and out of this world. The simple middle parted hair style that she sports through the entire film is seen here as well.

2. Red And White Saree From Kasto Mazza He Relaima:

This look Of Vidya Balan is from the song shot on the toy train in Darjeeling. While Shekar is on a business trip there he envisions Lalita every where. The best scene is when he sees his lady love in a traditional red and white Bengali saree. The blouse has an old world charm and we love the frill at the ends. Vidya, yet again, rocked this Bengali look.

3. Green And White Punjabi Suit From Soona Man Ka Aangan:

Each time we view this song we're captivated by Vidya Balan and Saif Ali Khan and their on screen chemistry. The last few seconds of the song shows us Lalita on a swing and Shekar playing the guitar, and Lalita's green and white suit is graceful. Her youthful appearance is the best inspiration for all women and girls even today!

4. Rekha's Bold Look From Kaise Paheli Zindagi:

Rekha has played the part of a night club singer and dancer. Her red sheer saree, retro hair and make-up is racy even for today's fashion standards. We love her winger eyeliner and ox blood pout. The big red rose in her hair also adds to the sexiness quotient. All in all, her appearance is super hot and very fashionable.

5. Lalita's Red Saree From Hui Mein Parineeta:

This is the song that plays in the background when Shekar makes love to Lalita. On the auspicious night, when Lalita accidently garlands Shekar, he returns the gesture and they then consummate their "marriage" on Shekar's bed. The red saree and traditional Bengali jewels worn by Vidya Balan in the scene from the movie is what makes this look the most iconic one of all.
