Tangy Aloo Tamatar: Side Dish Recipe

Aloo or potato is one of the staples found in every kitchen. In many households, a meal is incomplete without any aloo dish. Aloo side dishes and sabjis can vary from places to places. There are numerous aloo recipes that you can prepare for a sumptuous meal. From dry aloo ki sabji to gravy, you can prepare a dish of your choice.

As working professionals run out of time, quick recipes are always a hit. Here is a simple aloo with tamatar (tomato) recipe that you can prepare within 30 minutes. The potatoes are boiled and then mixed with the tomato in a frying pan. You can either keep the sabji dry or semi-gravy. Take a look at the side dish recipe.

Serves: 4
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 25 minutes

Ingredients

1. Potatoes- 4-5
2. Tomato- 2 (cut into medium sized pieces)
3. Green chilli- 2 (chopped)
4. Turmeric powder- 1tsp
5. Red chilli powder- 1tsp
6. Coriander powder- 1 ½ tsp
7. Garam masala- ½ tsp
8. Cumin seeds- ½ tsp
9. Salt- as per taste
10. Oil- 1tbsp

Procedure

1. Wash the potatoes in tap water and cut them into 4 halves.
2. Add water and potatoes in a pressure cooker. Pressure cook for the duration of 3-4 whistles.
3. Meanwhile, heat oil in a frying pan. Season with cumin seeds.
4. When the seeds start to splutter, add red chilli powder and tomatoes. Mix well and cook on a medium flame for about 3-4 minutes.
5. On the other side, peel the potatoes if the pressure has released. Keep the potatoes aside.
6. Add turmeric powder and salt in the frying pan. Mix and cook for another 2 minutes.
7. Now add green chillies, coriander powder and garam masala. Mix and cook.
8. Add the boiled potatoes and mix well. If you want to make it semi-gravy, add a little water and boil till the gravy thickens. Once done, put off the flame.

The tangy aloo tamatar is ready to eat. Serve this side dish hot with rotis.
