Vrat Ke Chawal: Microwave Recipe For Navratri

Vrat ke chawal is a special Navratri fast recipe cooked with Samvat rice. This is a kind of rice you are allowed to eat during fasts. Fortunately for you, this is also an Indian microwave recipe. So you do not have to struggle in the heat of the gas oven when you are on your ritual Navratri fast. Indian rice recipes are usually elaborate and difficult to digest but this one being a Navratri fast recipe has been modified according to its purpose.

It keeps you full for a long time so that you can battle those hunger pangs. Samvat chawal gets a little soggy on cooking so it is best to cook it as an Indian microwave recipe. The ingredients are simple and healthy so try it without a second thought.

Ingredient For Vrat Ke Chawal:

1. Samvat rice-1 cup
2. Potatoes-2 (chopped into medium sized cubes)
3. Peas (handful)
4. Cloves-5
5. Peppercorns-5
6. Cinnamon sticks-2
7. Green chillies-2 (chopped)
8. Turmeric-1 teaspoon
9. Cumin powder-1 tablespoon
10. Cumin seeds-1 teaspoon
11. Ghee-1 tablespoon
12. Bay leaf-1
13. Salt as per taste
14. Sugar-1 teaspoon

Procedure For Vrat Ke Chawal:

  • Wash the samvat rice and keep aside.
  • Melt ghee in a microwave proof bowl for 2 minutes on full microwave power. Add bay leaf, cumin seeds, cloves, peppercorns, cinnamon sticks and green chillies in the ghee. Mix it and microwave for 2 minutes on full power.
  • Now add the diced potatoes with the powdered spices (turmeric and cumin), mix with the spices and microwave for 4 minutes on the highest power.
  • Add the samvat rice and stir to mix it well with the spices and potatoes. Add 2 cups of water, salt and sugar.
  • Cover and cook for 25 minutes on 60 percent power.

You can garnish Vrat Ke Chawal with mint or basil leaves.
