Step by Step Quick Methi Dal Recipe

Easy Methi Dal Recipe requires:

Methi or fenugreek leaves - 1 small bunch
Yellow moong/toor dal - 2 cups (100g)
Curry leaves - a handful
Green chillies (slit into two halves)- 3-4
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Whole red chillies - 2

Jeera seeds (slightly roasted) - 1 tsp
Onions (chopped) - 1 small
Tomatoes (cut into small pieces) - 2 small
Garlic (crushed) - 5-6 pods
Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
Hing (optional) - ½ tsp
Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
Coriander leaves - for garnishing
Salt - as per taste
Oil - 1 tbsp
Butter (a blob)- optional

Procedure

1. First wash dal and cook in a cooker on a medium flame. Wait for a whistle and keep aside.

2. Splutter mustard seeds and red chillies in hot oil. Add curry leaves and garlic. Fry till curry leaves begin to turn crisp.

3. Add jeera seeds. Saute with onions, green chillies and tomatoes together. Fry for the next 2 minutes.

4. Add all the powders (red chilli powder, hing, turmeric, salt). To this, add the methi leaves and fry well for 3 minutes.

5. Now add the cooked dal. Add the small blob of butter to give it a nice rich taste. Cook for about two minutes.

6. Garnish with sprinkled coriander leaves and serve hot.

Nutritional value: Dal, as we all know, is power-packed with proteins. They tend to be a good source of potassium and minerals too. On the other hand, the strongly aromatic methi leaves have all the vitamins, potassium, and magnesium.
